We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Aatara Johnson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Aatara below.
Aatara, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
I’m Aatara Johnson aka Tarascope and I’m a fashion and style content creator in Atlanta, GA. I started creating social media content under “That’s Tarascope” to showcase my personal style which is a mix between chic and streetwear. I have been a brand ambassador for a few companies and helped them increase brand recognition, revenue and subscribers.
What I love about the content I create is that I always stay true to my personal style and the brand’s identity when we collaborate. This is important to me for two reasons. First, I never want to partner or share a brand that doesn’t align with my core values. Secondly, when highlighting a brand I really want you to see what that company has to offer that is different from other brands that might be similar.
I want my platform to be engaging so be sure to interact with me as you explore the world of a quiet, small town girl who moved to a big city!
Aatara, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m Aatara Johnson aka Tarascope. I’m from Athens, GA and moved to the metro-Atlanta area in high school. I started creating social media content to showcase my personal style, weekend getaways, vacations and much more. I have been a brand ambassador for a companies and helped them increase revenue and subscribers.

The first, I never want partner or share a brand that doesn’t align with my core values. What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to unlearn the stories I told myself from childhood till my 20s. Stories like I’m not smart enough, I don’t have enough experience to do XYZ, or it’s hard to make money. It’s extremely difficult to charge for services confidently if you don’t think you are qualified to do the job or if the service you are offering isn’t of high value.
So I had to rewrite these stories with positive, affirming stories so I could make decisions that were aligned with my goals and to grow.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
There are three resources that helped me pivot last year. First, investing in a business coaching program called “This Is Not A Book Club” by Yolanda Christopher. Joining this program puts you in the room with like-minded women who are also looking to elevate their business and grow. In this business coaching program we read two books that shifted my business outcomes and mindset.
Book 1: Go Big Now by Julia Pimsleur
Book 2: We Should All Be Millionaires by Rachel Rodgers
These two books are must reads especially if you need help getting out of your own way and/or if you have difficulties charging for your services. I highly recommend investing in “This Is Not A Book Club” by Yolanda Christopher first!
