Today we’d like to introduce you to Aasha Lewis-Redway.
Hi Aasha, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have always been passionate about music, but my journey into the industry wasn’t a straight path. It was a mix of opportunities, challenges, and a deep desire to create something meaningful. My love for music started at a young age, influenced by the sounds and culture around me and my dad of course. My father played a huge roll on why I’m involved in music the way that I am. However, it wasn’t until later in life that I fully immersed myself in the industry.
My first major step into the music world was through moving to New York City after undergraduate starting out as an intern with Sony Music. After a few months I was hired. I moved around in the areas of A&R, Marketing, and Digital Production. I gained experience working behind the scenes at various industry events & projects. These experiences exposed me to the inner workings of the business, networking, artist development, content creation, and branding.
Working in the industry, I realized that there was a gap for independent artists who needed a platform and resources to navigate the industry. I had the heart to create GENEUS R US, a platform that is more than just a brand, but a mission the focus on the Independent artist. The name holds deep significance, as it is inspired by my late father, Eugene Lewis, who passed away in 2009. He was a guiding force in my life, always encouraging me to chase my dreams fearlessly. I used to help him back home in Rochester with promoting Gospel artists that he will bring there. Naming my business after him is my way of honoring his legacy and continuing the work he would have been proud of.
GENEUS R US is designed to be a powerhouse for indie artists and media. We focus on artist development, event curation, media coverage, and providing platforms for creatives to showcase their talents. The goal is to continually build a supportive community where independent artists can thrive without being overshadowed by the mainstream industry. From hosting music conferences to producing music series and interviews, every project is a step toward amplifying independent voices.
Looking back, my journey has been one of persistence, learning, and evolution, in which I’m still understanding and learning. From working with established media personalities and music executives to creating my own lane in the industry, I have built something that represents not just my dreams but the dreams of many aspiring artists/creatives. GENEUS R US is only the beginning, and I am excited for what the future holds as we continue to grow and make an impact in the world of music and media.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road to building GENEUS R US has been anything but smooth. In the early stages even now, we faced countless rejections, emails left unanswered, meetings that never materialized, and opportunities that slipped away simply because we didn’t have a massive following. In a industry that often prioritizes numbers over quality, its challenging to break through without the viral moments or mainstream recognition that many platforms rely on to get their foot in the door.
I believe what sets GENEUS apart and what has truly been a blessing is that our work and professionalism have consistently spoken for us. Despite the setbacks, people who have encountered our brand and raw journalism, whether through our media coverage, event production, interviews, or artist support, recognize the dedication and quality we bring to the table. Those organic connections and word-of-mouth referrals have been the foundation of our growth. GENEUS R US was never about instant gratification; it’s about longevity, integrity, and creating real opportunities for artists and creatives. Every ‘no’ has only fueled us to push harder, and every door that was closed made way for even greater opportunities that were meant for us.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
GENEUS R US is more than just a music and media platform, it’s a movement. I founded Geneus with a vision to elevate independent artists and creatives, GENEUS R US provides a platform where talent, innovation, and authenticity thrive. Named in honor of Eugene Lewis, whose legacy of resilience and creativity continues to inspire its mission, GENEUS R US is dedicated to reshaping the landscape of indie music, media, and entertainment.
We specialize in artist development, media coverage, music reviews, content creation, and small event production, offering a space where creatives can be seen, heard, and celebrated. Our main series, Indie Talks, that I host alongside the beautiful Danielle Meeks to spotlight rising talent, bridging the gap between independent artists and mainstream recognition. Through strategic branding, live events, and exclusive interviews, we ensure that the voices of independent artists are amplified in a way that feels organic, intentional, and impactful.
In addition to our media coverage, we run a music review blog that dives deep into the latest releases from both mainstream and independent artists, offering insightful critiques and highlighting emerging talent providing a Geneus rating 1-5. We also produce Let’s Run That Back, an in-person podcast featuring top influencers, industry insiders, and tastemakers as we break down the latest in music culture, news, and trends. The platform brings unfiltered, engaging conversations to the forefront, creating a space for authentic dialogue around the ever-evolving entertainment industry. “We sip some tea but minus the shade.”

Any big plans?
The future of GENEUS R US is all about expansion, innovation, and creating even more opportunities. One of our biggest upcoming initiatives is launching a Summer Performance Series, shout out to GENEUS Events manager Whitney Charles who is hands down amazing and hardworking. This series is designed to give indie artists the space to headline their own shows and connect directly with their audience. We recognize how difficult it can be for emerging talent to secure venues and curate their own performances, so we’re actively working to collaborate with performance spaces, venues, and creative hubs to bring this vision to life. This series will not only provide artists with a stage but also help them build their fanbase, gain performance experience, and generate new opportunities within the industry. Beyond that, we’re looking forward to expanding our media presence, growing our Indie Talks platform, and continuing to produce high-quality content that shines a light on rising talent. We also plan to strengthen our partnerships with brands, influencers, and industry professionals to create more curated events, networking opportunities, and creative collaborations. GENEUS R US has always been about pushing the culture forward, and as we continue to grow, our focus remains on building a sustainable and impactful community for indie artists and creatives to thrive. It’s always Real Music…Real Style…Real People…the GENEUS BEHIND IT ALL!
