We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Aaron Waters a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Aaron thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
Im very happy as an artist honestly. I’ve had normal jobs before like working in a barbershop and at a laser printing store but Its still hard to see myself in a position where thats all i was doing. I’ve always known I was the furthest thing from the corporate type so I feel like me pursuing a career in the creative field is the perfect fit

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Aaron Waters but my artist name is Akwtheartist, and im currently a college student at Savannah College of Art and Design. All throughout my life i was constantly juggling art, skateboarding, and basketball as my main activites. When i got to highschool though i fell out of love with basketball and wanted to just focus on my art. When it came time to apply to colleges, i found out about SCAD and realized I could make an actual living out of illustration. So I immediately applied and got accepted a couple months later where i now study concept art for video games and animation. What I feel sets me apart is the quality of my work and my style overall. I enjoy drawing exaggerated figures mixed with an element of fantasy. What Im most proud of is my work ethic and how i am always willing to work and deliver a quality product in the end. What i want people and future clients to know about me and my work is that im gonna deliver you maximum effort and communication the whole way through the project and that you will always get your moneys worth.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My overall goal, is to have my work everywhere in the world and for it to be instantly recognizable. Like Zima Blue from that episode of Love, Death, Robots. I want my art to be as prolific and loved as his even if it does seem a bit unreasonable. If you shoot for the stars you’ll atleast land on the moon you know?
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is the ability and priviledge to constantly put out work that has the ability to grab peoples attention and just make them think. I love giving people something cool to stop and look at even if its just for a second.
