We recently connected with Aaron Tago and have shared our conversation below.
Aaron , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you tell us about a time that your work has been misunderstood? Why do you think it happened and did any interesting insights emerge from the experience?
Being mischaracterized leads to a lot of overthinking, it makes you question yourself, your abilities, and who you are as a person, or who you should be to the world. I learned that rebranding myself from a Producer to Artist has put me in two boxes, am I an Artist or Am I a Producer ? It’s very hard when the world characterizes you and makes you choose one or the other, when in reality I am both, I am just “ME”.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m an artist, producer, songwriter, entrepreneur, I have too many faces to categorize myself as just one thing, but if someone were to know my specialty I would say Hip-Hop. Hip-Hop is what I am most known for doing, and I am most proud of the success that I have achieved in my favorite genre of music. What sets me apart is that I’m the jack of all trades, I can produce any genre of music, and in the same breath write amazing songs, and hop on a track.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I want to inspire people to be their true selves and know that authenticity is okay, to be everyone is overrated, to be yourself is best, everybody is a One Kind Only individual.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding thing about being an artist is being able to talk about things I wouldn’t usually say to other people. I can express by deepest fears and downfalls, and also my greatest triumphs and blessings, through my music I finally get to be “ME”. With that I also get a new found sense of freedom because I also have full creativity of words, rhythm, flows in which I use to paint my vision.
