Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Aaron Sorenson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Aaron thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s been the best thing you’ve ever seen (or done yourself) to show a customer that you appreciate them?
At Horror Monger, creating a positive and personal customer experience is at the heart of everything we do. We treat every customer with respect and take the time to connect with our community.
One experience that stands out was with a woman visiting from out of state for her father’s funeral.
She found a high-end collectible she loved but couldn’t take it home due to travel restrictions.
I offered to arrange shipping, and we worked it out.
After receiving the item, she expressed heartfelt gratitude, saying, “This is the first time I’ve ever bought something of such value. After losing my father, I realized life’s too short not to enjoy it. Thank you for making me happy.”
Moments like this remind us why we do what we do.

Aaron, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Aaron Sorenson, and I’m the proud owner of a year-round horror store located in Mesa, Arizona called Horror Monger Collectibles.
A little about me and how this wild dream came to true: I grew up being astonished by the eerie world of horror cinema. Some of my earliest memories are of sitting in the living room with my mom, watching episode after episode of Tales from the Crypt, movies like Silence of the Lambs, Halloween, and Pet Sematary.
As I got older, that fascination evolved into a full-blown passion for collecting all things horror—masks, posters, toys, props—you name it. If it had anything to do with the horror genre, I wanted it.
And more recently, that love turned into something more: a desire to share it with others.
For years, weekends had meant searching through local toy shops, thrift stores, and bookstores on the hunt for rare finds. Now, I’m on the other side of the counter—offering horror fans the chance to discover unique pieces for their own collections, or even helping someone buy their very first horror collectible. And honestly? It’s absolutely amazing!
There’s nothing quite as rewarding as watching someone’s eyes light up when they find that perfect item they’ve been looking for.
Looking ahead, I couldn’t be more excited. I see endless opportunities—not just to grow the store, but to expand the brand and bring something truly unique and positive to the Arizona community.
Horror has never been a trend to me—it’s a lifestyle, and the fanbase for year-round horror has grown tremendously over the past decade. I’m absolutely honored to be a part of it.
One day, I want to look back and say, “I did that”—not, “I wish I had.” So, to anyone reading this: take the leap. Stay focused. Be bold. As cliché as it might sound, anything is possible when you put your mind and heart into that dream and commit fully.

Have you ever had to pivot?
This is something I talk about often and openly, because I know I’m not the only one who’s been there.
Growing up, I was that kid who never really felt comfortable in his own skin. I struggled with self-worth and always felt like I didn’t quite fit in. That feeling stuck with me, and by my late teens and early twenties, I found myself in a really dark place.
I went down a rough path with substance abuse, and it cost me a lot — friends, family, and any real sense of who I was. I hit rock bottom, and I knew something had to change. It wasn’t easy, but I truly believe everything happens for a reason.
Through a long process of hard lessons, humility, and learning to accept myself, I found the strength to rebuild. Over the last 11 years, I’ve completely turned my life around. Today, I’m proud to say I own a successful business, I have a beautiful family, and I’m surrounded by an incredible group of people who are so supportive.
Life now is better than I ever imagined it could be — and every day, I’m grateful for the journey that brought me here.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
This is something I think about all the time, and for me, the answer is pretty simple: treat people with respect and be genuine. It’s really not that hard — kindness costs nothing.
These days, I take a lot of pride in just being a good person. I try to give more than I take, and show up for others in a real way. But it wasn’t always like that. In my younger years, I was selfish, self-centered, and honestly, not someone who treated others the way they deserved.
Over time, I’ve learned that the way you treat people — especially when no one’s watching — says everything about who you are. And when it comes to business, I truly believe success starts there. Be kind. Be real. People remember how you make them feel, and that matters more than anything else
