Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Aaron & Sonya Orr. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Aaron & Sonya, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
Years ago Aaron read a book titled, “Evangelpreneur” by Josh Tolley. That book challenged him to think outside the box and use entrepreneurship to do God’s work on Earth. Six years ago we sold all we had, moved in with relatives and embarked on this crazy journey. We had no idea what was before us, we were both excited and at times afraid! This was something we felt lead to do, and after much prayer, fasting and seeking direction Commissional Coffee was launched! The desire was simple, to make this life count for eternity and use our business to invest it’s profits for the proclamation and demonstration of the Gospel.
We wanted to offer an amazing product that people love, like coffee, but not just any coffee, coffee with a mission.
When you drink our coffee you are making a REAL IMPACT right from the start! We only offer Fair Trade Coffee because it ensures that our farmers are paid a fair wage. Every year we donate to strategically chosen non-profits whose mission, matches ours. When you buy our coffee you are also helping fight against sex trafficking, offering aid to widows and orphans, aiding persecuted Christians and supporting Christian missionaries locally and abroad.
The mission was clear but the path, not so much.
We stepped out on faith, fully relying on God for direction and continue to do so, daily.

Aaron & Sonya, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
We have been married 14 years and have 4 wonderful children. We reside in Conroe, Texas and have lived in Texas for most of our lives.
We are the owners of Commissional Coffee, a local Coffee Roasting Company located in Conroe, TX.
We offer Premium Freshly Roasted, Fair Trade Organic Coffee, roasted in small batches- weekly, to ensure the best flavor.
We offer a variety of coffee origins from: Colombian, Guatemalan, Honduran, Special Blends & rotating origins from around the world.
Each Coffee origin has different “cupping notes” similar to wine.
All of our coffee is free of artificial flavors or harmful pesticides, it is 100% pure premium organic coffee. Our Coffee is also Fair Trade Certified, it ensures farmers get a fair deal. It helps keep their kids in school, improve their communities, protect the environment and grow the best products possible for you.
In addition to having a small business we have been called to start a missional movement called “The Maranatha Collective.”

Can you open up about a time when you had a really close call with the business?
Owning a business is hard!. I remember some weeks, our only sale was a cup of coffee, or nothing at all, those days were hard. It has required a lot of sacrifice, sweat and tears. It hasn’t been easy, but God always makes a way. Being a small business owner has highs and many lows. During COVID for example we lost 50% of all of our sales. We are still recovering and are hopeful that as we enter our seventh year in business, we will see our business flourish.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Word of mouth! We appreciate any and all referrals! The best way to support any small business in addition to buying their products is by telling your friends. Our desire is to grow our wholesale accounts and provide Cafe’s, restaurants, churches, businesses, stores etc., with our amazing product.
In addition to roasting coffee we also offer:
White labeling
Marketing Products (sample bags of our coffee with a customized business label).
Catering
Corporate Gift Baskets
Organic Tea
Local Honey
We are super excited about our Monthly Coffee Club, sign up and receive the first bag of coffee FREE!
