We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Aaron “Quick” Nelson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Aaron “Quick” below.
Hi Aaron “Quick”, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
First and foremost, I fell in love with what I do immediately before I started to learn about the craft of acting. I started as a very curious and imaginative kid who wondered where to go and who to talk to to get started. Once I had the chance to start my journey as an actor, I began learning through studying different acting methods such as Stanislovky, Meisner, Strasburg, Uta Hagen, Practical Aesthetics, and more including many hours in drama and improv classes learning from several acting coaches that prepared me to perform in theater.
Knowing what I know now, what I could have done to speed up my learning process would have been the decision of the full focus and energy in acting instead of pursuing sports as an profession, playing from a early age. If I would’ve stuck to acting then instead of spending more time on the football field and basketball court, I truly believe I would be much further in my journey to where I am now. But I do appreciate from where and how I started because it did made me the artist that I am. And that I have a craft that I could always contribute to it which is football and basketball.
The most essential skills I think I have is something that is not taught which is drive and another one would be the understanding of hard work. Without hardwork, it would be difficult to reach much high success in this industry.
One of the obstacles that I would pretty much say that stood in my way which probably stood in most others and their gifts, goals, and learning their craft would be just everyday life. Obstacles that may have come unexpectedly.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am Aaron “Quick” Nelson. Professional Film, Television, and Theater actor. I’ve started getting into the industry as a student of the art and still am. While taking acting classes, I began working my creativity through independent films and worked on theater, studying classical plays such as Shakespeare. I later signed with an agency and management team to began auditioning for major film and television productions. So, in the beginning of my career, I started by studying, hard work, and networking.
As an artist in the acting industry, I offer my creativity, heart, passion, free-spirited mind, taste, and time to bring a role and the script to life. I bring color to the black and white screenplay including the magic and inspiration of the purpose of the story.
What I offer is what I am most proud of. I do most things that many actors do not do. Because that’s what I look for. “What should I do that most artists don’t ?” And that’s what sets me apart from others. Not in a bad way. Just in a different way of creating magic. And what I want the world to know about me is how deep I am in to my craft. How deeply committed I am into this. How far I came and why I will NOT EVER STOP.
I WANT TO INSPIRE THE WORLD WILL MY ART.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Prior to acting, I pursued in sports. Playing basketball and football was my passion at the time. Many of my friends and family pushed me to pursue to play football because how good I was. I played the full back position and sometimes I would come off of defense as a cornerback and at times, I would also play on special teams as a punt returner. One of my choices to play college football at the time was for Florida State University. But, Later in high school when I transferred from Leon High in Tallahassee, FL to Central High in Providence, RI where I am from, I decided to follow basketball. I played positions point guard and shooting guard. Colleges I had on my list I was deciding to play for that sport was Georgetown University because I wanted to play for John Thompson, Saint John’s because of Mike Jarvis, or UCONN because I like what they had going with their basketball program. Playing sports is where the nickname “Quick” was made. I was quick on the basketball court and football field. Later after playing college basketball and pursuing in professional basketball, I torn my ACL, I went through over a year of physical therapy. After my surgery and physical therapy, I didn’t had that passion anymore so I began to look for an outlet. Something that would take place of sports. Something that I enjoy doing. Something that would bring a smile back on my face. After, taking an acting class, I began remembering how good it felt to perform in front of an audience. I missed and enjoyed every moment of it. So although, things didn’t turn out how I wanted in one of my goals to pursue, with my injury causing me to rethink, take a pivot, and make a change of direction to follow a better path which is acting.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, one of the most rewarding aspects of being an artist is the power of inspiration. To inspire someone is truly amazing to me. Once I’ve first experienced someone who I inspired. I knew that acting was my purpose and that it is my absolute duty to continue to follow my path, work on my craft, and to perform to the best of my ability.
