Aaron, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
Starting a podcast has been something I have been interested in for a few years. However, I never dared to put myself out there. At the end of 2021, I decided to create a show focused on youth baseball players. As a youth coach, I have seen and heard a lot of negativities that happen at the fields. I grew tired of what I witnessed and wanted to build a show/network that would allow children to be proud of their accomplishments on and off the field with loads of positive encouragement. I aim to help influence coaches and parents to let their children enjoy being kids.
Aaron, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I have 26 years of experience working in the retail and service industry, and I never thought of pursuing any other career. As a child, I always dreamt of working in the sports industry, but after starting my career in retail, it felt like an unattainable goal. However, The SLIDE Podcast helped me open doors that I never thought were possible.
Creating a brand that encourages individuals of all ages to be the best version of themselves was a significant goal for me. Branding was something that I learned a lot about in my previous roles. I liked the idea of creating a Title that was also an acronym so that we could expand on more of our principles and beliefs. The S.L.I.D.E. stands for Sportsmanship, Leadership, Inspire, Dedication, and Excitement. These are all traits that will help individuals as they grow into adulthood.
Initially, I created the podcast show to be a local show that would help me get started in the podcasting world. However, once we posted our first social media post, we received requests from all over the country. Our goal for the show is to teach kids that baseball is supposed to be fun, even if you don’t win or make an error. We have had the opportunity to interview some great guests on the show, and we hope to continue inspiring and educating individuals through our podcast.
How did you build your audience on social media?
As an adult who primarily used Facebook, social media presented a significant challenge for me. However, I realized that to grow our show, we needed to expand our reach beyond Facebook. I created profiles for our show on Instagram, X, TikTok, and LinkedIn. Over the first few months, I noticed the trends on each platform. Facebook was where I could engage parents, Instagram helped me find talented kids to be guests on our show, and Twitter was where I could target high school and college athletes. As for TikTok, I’m still figuring that one out.
Social media is a critical part of our show, The SLIDE Podcast. We use each channel to showcase our episodes and guests. It’s essential to research and understand each platform and post content that is relevant to your target audience. Posting clips isn’t enough; each clip needs to have a purpose and vision. Staying up-to-date on industry trends is crucial as each platform is continually evolving. I recommend having someone dedicated to managing your social media platforms to ensure consistency and on-brand posts.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
It is crucial to maintain communication with our guests even after the show is over. I ensure to keep tabs on the kids regularly throughout the seasons. I consider every guest a part of our show family, and it’s my responsibility to make them feel remembered and valued. I follow up on their academic progress and game performances, and I’m also available to chat with them if they ever need someone to talk to. It’s important to me that every kid feels that they matter, and my objective is to be a supportive friend to each one of them.”
