We were lucky to catch up with Aaron Medrano recently and have shared our conversation below.
Aaron, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
I opened a barbershop at 19 years old. I had zero experience on how to run a business. This was my first real job. It all started senior year of high school; I had to figure out what I wanted to do after I graduated. That’s when I decided to try out barbering. I always had an interest since I was younger, but I never saw it as a real career until I did more research into it. And that was the best decision I made. I started taking courses, going to different classes, and just made myself a sponge. I needed to know everything there was about all aspects of barbering. Fast forward 2 years later, Im finishing up barber school. I was cutting out of my moms garage. Becoming a licensed professional I had a decision to make. That was whether I wanted to start cutting in a barbershop, rent out a suite, or just stay at my moms. I looked around the area for barbershops I wanted to go to, but didn’t find anywhere I saw myself growing with the potential that I saw in myself. That’s when I decided to take the biggest risk of my life. Opening my own barbershop. I had no idea how I was going to do it or if it was even possible. It was a long journey of just figuring it out and learning throughout the whole process. I wanted to create a space for people to grow and succeed with no ceilings. I learned from one of my mentors, Chris Bossio, to have a vision so big that everyone else’s vision fits in it. And that’s where Change Barber Studio comes into play. I wanted to be the place you go to for endless growth and success. And I believe that’s what we created with Change. We’re not just a barbershop. We’re a community and we’ve built a great culture around us.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

We want to change lives for the better, whether that be through a haircut, a conversation, or an opportunity.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
I would say the biggest strategy to growing our clientele would be providing value. People are more inclined to choose you if you offer the most value compared to competitors. That could be through problem/solution and showing that you can be the solution to your clients problems. It could be by providing an amazing service and experience that clients will always come back to. If you provide value and your clients perceive that value to benefit them, then you will have a constant flow of clients.
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
Be a servant leader. Our teams success is the most important thing. I realized what’s the point of me eating if my team can’t eat at the same table. That’s when everything changed. You have to be the source or the place where people feel they can grow. In our barbershop our barbers have no ceilings to what they can achieve. Have a vision so big that everybody else’s vision fits within yours. Be the source where your team can look at to help the get to where they want to be. Always be there to help and support.
