We were lucky to catch up with Topp recently and have shared our conversation below.
Topp, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
A big risk I took when I was younger was dropping out of high school after my mother passed away & pursuing my music career full time. I didn’t have a plan or any idea how to accomplish what I wanted to accomplish. All I knew was I was extremely hungry for success & I was willing to learn/do anything to make sure I see success.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
When I moved to LA at 18 one of my room mates was Marcc Rose who played Tupac in Straight Outta Compton, he definatly introduced me to a lot of events & people in the industry, & through that I started to make my own connections. What sets me apart from most creatives is I rap, produce beats, engineer, film music videos, & edit videos. I pretty much do everything. I am most proud of the fact that I have remained myself this entire journey & keeping everything I’ve done authentic to my truest self. be on the look out for my EP ‘Lifes Crazy’ releasing soon! Go stream my new single ‘On My Life’ featuring Abhi The Nomad & TheBoyBeerus. I also co-created a collective called AFFILI8D & it consists of a few artists that are the best at what we do in my opinion.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
When I was 18 I lost my mother to lung cancer. & when I turned 21 I lost my father due to alcoholism. Even though I wanted to give up so many times during my career after that, because sometimes it felt impossible to get out of certain situations I still remained on the path. & now I look back and thank my younger self for staying disciplined & dedicated regardless of the circumstances.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is seeing the influence and the feelings that I can give people through my art. I think the idea of helping someone or at least making them feel something is very powerful especially people who have went through what I went through.
