We were lucky to catch up with Aaron Dsouza recently and have shared our conversation below.
Aaron, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
One of the most meaningful projects I’ve worked on is my thesis short film “Caroline,” which I created while graduating from the American Film Institute with a specialization in editing. I served as the editor for this film, dedicating nearly five months to its completion.
The journey of creating “Caroline” was both fulfilling and nerve-racking. It demanded immense hard work, dedication to the craft, and a constant internal battle to deliver the best product possible. The entire process was a testament to my growth as a filmmaker and editor, marking a significant chapter in my career.
All the hard work came to fruition when “Caroline” was long-listed by the Yugo BAFTA Awards in the live action section. It was one of the proudest moments of my life and a memory I will always cherish.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a Film Editor based in Los Angeles. My passion for the industry began as a small boy in Pune, India, where I was awestruck by motion pictures. Films like “Interstellar,” “Saving Private Ryan,” and “1917” inspired me to become an editor, with Lee Smith serving as my role model in mastering the craft.
I have worked as an editor on multiple short films and assisted on various feature films. I am an Avid-certified editor with experience in DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Premiere Pro, and Avid Media Composer.
I aspire to collaborate with creative and enthusiastic directors who are eager to push boundaries and create compelling stories. I am a fast learner with a proven ability to meet tight deadlines. I strive to create something unique with each project and constantly better myself, a quality evident in all of my past work.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I aspire to leave a creative legacy through my work. I want people to watch my films and feel inspired to innovate and develop their own distinctive styles. My goal is to make a positive impact on how audiences think and perceive the world.
While I understand the importance of monetary benefits in sustaining a career, I believe it’s crucial never to lose sight of the core reasons for joining the industry. It’s essential to remain true to one’s values and remember the passion that initially drove us to create.

Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
Looking back, I wish I had taken certain workshops and courses earlier in my career. They could have saved me a lot of time that I spent learning on the job. Additionally, I would have benefited from learning more about finance and other practical aspects of life.
I also wish I had read more books related to editing and post-production earlier on. Although I’ve acquired this knowledge as I’ve progressed, having it sooner would have been incredibly valuable.
