We recently connected with Aaron Davis and have shared our conversation below.
Aaron, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
I want to create a environment, that will express all different types of art forms. From hair, and beauty, fashion, music, photography and videography. Art and creating. My goal is to inspire and motivate young artist to follow their dreams, as a starving artist I know how hard it is to make it big as a artist. I feel like I can be a out let for young entrepreneurs to look up to because I have had to go through ever obstacle, and emotion to get where I am today. And I’m still working and chasing after my dream. It hasn’t been easy or free. But I would love to inspire and help others.
Aaron, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
From a young age I have always been a artist. I was never book smart but I knew I was artist after I started doing landscaping for dad. I was all about detail. From that I started picking up a pencil and drawling. I realized I was finding my self being ocd about detail. Around 8th grade I started dancing and performing in the 8th grade talent show teaching my friends a Routine so we were all *NSYNC. I also started to drawling on t shirts and selling them in middle school. So going into high school I was very creative. Making money from doing t shirts. To painting on peoples binders. About sophomore year I started cutting hair. I would practice everyday and got known for it, so all through out high school I was dancing, drawling, and cutting hair. so once senior year came around, I had to figure out a career for my senior project. I really wanted to do it on how to become a famous dancer, my teacher wouldn’t let me do it because I knew too much about it, so the next easiest thing for me was how to become a barber. So after graduating I started teaching hiphop and break dancing out of a local dance studio called vibe. I was cutting hair and painting on the side. And still working a 9-5 trying jobs out and trying to figure out what path I wanted to go. Around 19 years old my friends, and I started a entertainment company. Not knowing anything about running a business. We started to build a name for our selfs. But about a year and half or so we all went our own ways. Then I started to focus on my self so after 7 years of cutting hair I finally went and got my license for hair. As a cosmetologist. After graduating beauty school I knew I was going to do big things in the industry, just because of my drive. I then started to compete at hair shows and traveling. At first I was losing. Then about after the 3rd one I started placing, and winning. From that schools, salons and barber shops wanted me to come teach. So I have build a name for my self in the beauty industry. I am now focusing on my brand. Creative stylez. Witch is my company for hair. Creative stylez represents unique diverse styles. From all different types witch can represent anyone, and everyone.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Social media is very important. I remember when instagram first started. I was so focus on building my followers and first I had very few. But I kept posting my work everyday and people would follow me more, and more. But also a huge thing is getting out to shows and shaking hands, and cross promoting. If you have a brand. Maybe give another brand ur gear and take a photo with them. Their is multiple ways to cross promote. Find people who relate to you and show them love and share their work. Instagram is like your Netflix series. So people will only keep watching if it’s entertaining.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I think the difference between me and other artist is I’m never content, I don’t like to be stagnant, I am always searching for other ways to create or expand my brand. Never be comfortable. Be comfortable with being uncomfortable, and watching your self grow.
