We recently connected with Aaron Baker and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Aaron thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
We just released a full length album that we started working on about 5 years ago. That’s by far the most meaningful project for the band. We started working on the record before the pandemic. Then all that happened and we lost a lot of momentum. For a while it looked like the band was done. It was a major struggle just to get back to a point where we were excited and able to make music again. In a way the down time did help because when we came back to the songs, they felt great when we heard them with fresh ears. Sometimes you work on something so long that you lose sight of whether it’s good or not. After getting back into the songs, it was just a matter of getting them recorded in a way that did them justice. It was a lot of work because up until this point we have done everything ourselves. We handle every aspect of writing, producing and recording. On top of that, we’ve also created all of the music videos, album art, and other promotional content ourselves. So this album titled ‘CRAWL’ is meaningful because because every single idea and detail has been labored over by just us.
Aaron, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
We’re a band from NYC that plays dark, melodic music with heavy guitars and beautifully eerie female vocals. We have a new album called “CRAWL” that just came out that we’re very proud of. I think it’s best to just go listen to our album to get a sense of what we’re about as opposed to us trying to describe it.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
There was a moment where we thought it would be best to find someone else to help us produce our music, but it was difficult to find someone that showed enough passion about it. In the end we learned how to do it ourselves and even though the end product might not be 100% technically perfect it has emotion and makes an impact which is the most important thing.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I think it’s important to keep experimenting, to find out what’s engaging to the people you’re trying to reach. You have to stay honest to your style but also try different things to see what gets people complete strangers to get interested in you.
