We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Aaron Allen a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Aaron, appreciate you joining us today. One of the toughest things about progressing in your creative career is that there are almost always unexpected problems that come up – problems that you often can’t read about in advance, can’t prepare for, etc. Have you had such and experience and if so, can you tell us the story of one of those unexpected problems you’ve encountered?
like they say when you start, not everyone is going to like you or support you, This statement i didnt pay attention to in the past when i start my creative journey as a author solely in 2015. Since then there has been jeolousy by other actors and creatives along with my stage name being taken. For example i came out as an author in 2015, but now if you search my name “Aaron Allen” you will see quite a few other people like new authors and actors who use the name my real name and stage name “Aaron Allen” after i came out with the name, as then in 2015 i was thwe only one with that name. On the other note, Jealousy has been a problem as a actor as well when shooting because some times other actors want your role and start “over acting” in their roles. For example when I was co starring in my first indie film, “A Mil Wit A Key (IMDB), I had other actors in certains scenes that show struggle be too rough, or say rude things in their dologue that wasnt “in the script”.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I first started actually as a creative when I published my first book as an author like i said before in 2015. The book is a collection of poetry called “My Mind the Journey through love and the rest”. then in 2017 Manie Hodge had started putting together Actors for his skits, webseries and feature films he was working on and asked me to play a few roles in some of those projects that can be found on youtube, Roku streaming site and more. Since 2017 i have been writing more books and acting in a few more movies with a few more film producers. I now mostly act and write books as i am also currently finishing up my documentary coming this fall. But its not just about me and my team of artists who have made alot of lead way in hollywood and indie hollywood, its also about helping other new and older creative as well out there get oppurtinities to work with me and us for no cost like most creatives do now. So I am mostly proud of that for me and my team, we help others get to the next level as we work with real mainstream celebrity Actors, comedians and music artist, while other groups charge hundreds and cant produce any connections that we have.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
The typical “NO” in the industry is for real! I am a published Author and actor with plenty of references but humility is for everyone from time to time. I have been rejected with projects in the traditional publishing field and screenwriting and some casting calls i didnt get a call back. So in all my success i also have failures in book publishing and the acting field but I just keep going as if i didnt hear that “NO”. it is most important not to ignore that old saying that Aaliyah sang “if at first you dont succeed, dust yourself of and try again.” Try Try again and try until you are satified or get what you want in life and in your carreer and in any carreer you choose. So no matter what the future holds i hold on to that saying and Faith that my work will get famous.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
“The Art of War” is the best book any creative, business person and person at war should read. it talks about how to attack a problem and how to plan for work in the future.
