We recently connected with Aaron & Abby Parker/Lynch and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Aaron & Abby, thanks for joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
Starting up this small business, based on something we both simply love to do, was quite the risk. It meant investing in something we didn’t know would work. It meant time, energy, money being poured into something without any return to begin. It meant choosing to do something different, because what we had always done wasn’t working. We were tired of being on someone else’s clock. We were bringing a baby into the world and we needed something flexible to be there for her in the way we wanted to be. Being any kind of artist is risky. Most people don’t appreciate the work that goes into it, especially everything behind the scenes, so it’s hard to charge what you’re worth and have people respect it. We are slowly climbing the ladder and we still love what we do! We love that we are able to help people when they need something, or just do something fun because someone has a vision. We don’t regret going out on a limb for this . . .and we’re still going strong!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
We are a team in the South Overland Park area. We both have always been interested in photography and just truly enjoy getting out and taking pictures. It seemed like a natural progression after we had a few people ask us to do photos for them to make it into a business. We also offer design and art services. We can pretty much do anything you ask or can dream up! We work on logos and websites, editing photos that the customer took themselves, fantasy shoots, birth, baby, maternity, family, headshots, dogs . . .you name it. We genuinely want to help people get the end result they are imagining. We are both really proud that we have accumulated our life experience into this and we’re turning it into something real. We are showing our kids what they could also be capable of. We are a small operation and we want to keep it that way. So, you are the priority. We want the consumer to feel important and valued. That’s what we want most of all. For our clients to feel seen, heard, and valued. We want to bring the Vibrance to your life!
Do you have multiple revenue streams – if so, can you talk to us about those streams and how your developed them?
We do! As we said before, we’re kind of a ‘jack of all trades’ team. Between the two of us, pretty much anything you can dream up creatively, we can bring to life. We offer design services-web, print, logos, etc. as well as custom art-think home decor, paintings, that thing you like on pinterest . . .and then we also offer the photography services, to include some minor video editing and voiceovers if needed. So yes, we offer multiple ways for ourselves to bring in revenue.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
Honestly, we just built it little by little and bit by bit. We started small and only used the limited equipment we had. Over time, we have been able to purchase other items and equipment that makes the job easier for us and more professional for our clients. We still don’t have anything super fancy, but we get some great shots with what we have. I think our message here would be that if you are thinking of starting a business, it’s ok to start small and with what you have. We didn’t do into debt to do this. We’ve been smart with our money, even if we were a bit impatient sometimes. We do a little bit, until we can do a lot and we just keep building.
