We were lucky to catch up with Aalyana recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Aalyana, thanks for joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The most meaningful project I have worked on to date is a drawing I created shortly after my 16th birthday, depicting a moment I shared with my mother. We exchanged speeches during that time, and it was such a profound and memorable experience for me. I felt compelled to capture that significant moment in my own artistic style.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Aalyana, and I am a passionate and emerging illustrator. I have been drawing for as long as I can remember, but it wasn’t until I was 15 that I had the opportunity to share my art with the world. At that pivotal age, I was commissioned to illustrate a children’s book titled Tia Bua Believes in Your Magic, a project that opened numerous doors for me and allowed me to expand my reach and influence. Through this experience, I had the privilege of reading in libraries and schools, sharing the empowering message of becoming the best version of oneself. Looking ahead, I am committed to offering a service of limitless illustrations, bringing any creative vision to life with the utmost skill and dedication. I take great pride in independently reading to students, knowing that my work has a direct impact on their growth and inspiration. While Tia Bua marked the beginning of my journey, it is far from the end. Illustrating the Tia Bua series has laid the foundation for my continued growth, and I am excited for the global impact my art will soon have.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
One of the most important lessons I had to unlearn as an illustrator was the belief that everything must be perfect from the start. Early on, I believed that the first draft or idea had to be flawless, which often held me back from truly exploring my creativity. This mindset made me hesitant to take risks or make mistakes, as I was afraid of not meeting my own high standards. However, over time, I learned that the creative process is much more about exploration and growth than getting it right the first time. I realized that mistakes and imperfections are essential to creating my style and technique. Even if it isn’t perfect, it helps bring me closer to a final piece.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect would have to be the look on children’s faces. Being able to witness the genuine joy and wonder on children’s faces when they engage with my art and see how my creations can inspire, uplift, and brighten their day is incredibly fulfilling. It’s a powerful reminder of the impact art can have on young minds, sparking creativity, imagination, and a sense of connection. Knowing that my work has the ability to bring happiness and positive emotion to others, especially children, gives me a profound sense of purpose and reminds me the passion for what I do.
