We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Aaliyah Nicole. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Aaliyah below.
Aaliyah, appreciate you joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
Honestly? I think the moment I realized I had to pursue music professionally was somewhere between singing in the church choir as a kid and turning every life crisis into a melody by instinct. Growing up Haitian, Jamaican, and Panamanian, rhythm and expression were basically part of my DNA, but the church gave me that foundation—the discipline, the soul, the “don’t hit that note unless you’re ready to mean it” kind of training.
But it wasn’t just about having a voice—it was about realizing I could build a whole universe with it. One where my supporters, my Angels, could feel seen, uplifted, and maybe even cry and dance at the same time. God definitely planted that seed early, but it took some detours (and a few emotional plot twists) to realize this was more than a passion—it was purpose. Once I got a taste of what it felt like to connect with people through something I created? Yeah… there was no going back.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Of course! I’m Aaliyah Nicole—a singer, songwriter, creative spirit, and overall genre-fluid soul navigating life through music. My roots are Haitian, Jamaican, and Panamanian, so naturally, rhythm, storytelling, and passion run in my blood. I got my start in the church choir, where I learned that singing isn’t just about hitting notes—it’s about feeling something and helping other people feel it too. That foundation gave me the vocal discipline and emotional depth I carry into every creative project I touch.
While my sound starts in Afro R&B, it definitely doesn’t stop there. I’m heavily influenced by everything from soulful ballads to Caribbean rhythms, 2000s pop, gospel, and even alternative vibes. I love blending genres to create something that feels fresh, honest, and emotionally real. If I can make you cry and dance in the same song, my job is done. My music is for people who want to feel—the lovers, the overthinkers, the dreamers, and the healers. I call my supporters my Angels, because we’re building a whole world together—one that’s honest, intentional, and just a little bit magical.
Outside of my own artistry, I’m super passionate about uplifting other creatives. That’s why I launched my own production company, Pyramid Productions Entertainment. When I’m not pouring into my own projects, I’m helping other artists develop their sound, vision, and confidence. I know how overwhelming the industry can be when you’re trying to find your footing, so I wanted to build a space that offers real support, collaboration, and a whole lot of creative freedom.
What sets me apart is my ability to blend depth with versatility. I’m not afraid to take risks, bend genres, or write about things we usually try to keep quiet. My goal is always to create art that’s rooted in truth—whether that truth is raw, beautiful, messy, or all of the above. Whether you’re listening to one of my tracks or working with me behind the scenes, I want people to walk away feeling something real.
So if you’re just discovering me—welcome to the universe. It’s genre-bending, heart-centered, and guided by God, creativity, and the energy of my Angels. And trust—we’re only getting started.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding part of being an artist is watching something that started as a random voice note or late-night journal entry turn into something that moves people. Like, the fact that a feeling I had in my room at 2 a.m. can somehow make someone in another city—or even another country—feel understood? That’s wild to me every time.
It’s the connection for me. When someone tells me a song helped them heal, cry it out, or even just feel seen—that’s the kind of impact that reminds me why I do this. It’s also super rewarding to know that I get to live in full expression of who I am—genre-fluid, emotional, spiritual, and a little dramatic (in the best way). Being able to create art that’s real, raw, and divinely guided, while also opening doors for other creatives through Pyramid Productions? Yeah… that’s the dream. And I’m living it—grateful, humbled, and just getting started.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Whew—one lesson I had to seriously unlearn is that being “nice” or agreeable will protect you in this industry. Spoiler alert: it doesn’t. Especially as a woman navigating a male-dominated space, I learned (sometimes the hard way) that kindness can be mistaken for naivety, and boundaries are non-negotiable.
I’ve had to deal with men in the industry who tried to blur lines, overstep, or act like they were doing me a favor by offering help—with strings attached. It was disheartening, and honestly, it made me question whether there was space for someone like me to rise without compromising who I am. But instead of letting it make me bitter, I let it make me wiser. I started speaking up more, standing firmer in my worth, and moving with discernment.
It wasn’t easy, but I know God didn’t bring me this far to leave me stuck. I still believe He’s making a way—one that honors my purpose and protects my peace. And now, I’m not just here for the music—I’m here to help shift the culture and create safe spaces for other women and creatives coming up behind me.
