Aaliyah, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear the story of how you went from this being just an idea to making it into something real.

I have always harbored a sincere love for technology and the arts. From animation, singing, painting, playing instruments, and poetry to graphic and interior design, my passion for creativity has been a constant companion since childhood. The desire to be a creator, to bring ideas to life, has been ingrained in me for as long as I can remember.

The inception of my creative agency traces back to my tenure at a previous job. Entrusted with the task of designing business cards and other marketing materials, I discovered an innate love for branding and collaborating with businesses. This realization prompted me to embark on a journey of self-learning, delving into coding and enrolling in design classes to master my craft.

With my newfound skills, I secured my first client and experienced the thrill of designing logos and expressing creativity freely. The joy I derived from this process fueled my determination to turn my passion into a full-time profession. Armed with a meticulously crafted business plan and a vision board, I pitched my creative agency idea to potential investors during a pivotal meeting. Despite not securing the investment, I refused to be discouraged; instead, I saw it as an opportunity to find alternative paths to realize my dream.

Balancing my day job and the pursuit of my entrepreneurial dream, I took on weekend cleaning gigs to afford daycare for my children. The turning point came when my son’s frequent asthma-related illnesses and other health problems prompted me to reassess my priorities. Fearing the potential repercussions of not being present at my job due to unforeseen circumstances and many days in hospitals, I decided to take a leap of faith.

Although met with uncertainties, my leap of faith paid off. Six years later, I find myself immersed in the world I love, grateful for the incredible clients who have trusted me with their creative endeavors. The journey has allowed me to be present at home with my children, Jaylen and Tye, a decision I made out of love and concern for their well-being. Despite the challenges, the fulfillment I derive from my work and the ability to be there for my family make every obstacle worth overcoming.

As I reflect on this journey, I am reminded that pursuing one’s passion requires resilience, resourcefulness, and an unwavering belief in the possibility of success. Today, I continue to design and create each day, grateful for the path that led me to where I am—a testament to the power of determination and the pursuit of one’s true calling.

I am a dedicated graphic designer and full-stack developer, proudly navigating the dynamic realms of creativity and technology. I am also a single mom to two boys. Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?

The creative journey can be quite a challenge to understand for those who are not familiar with it. It requires a delicate balance between passion and practicality. Creatives must find a way to balance artistic expression with the practical considerations of running a sustainable business. Those who are not familiar with the creative realm may not realize the difficulties involved in turning a passion into a career, such as managing client expectations and staying up-to-date with industry trends. Additionally, the emotional investment in each project, the need for constant inspiration, and the dynamic nature of creative work are all integral parts of the creative process. Creativity is more than just producing visually appealing outcomes, it also involves problem-solving, effective communication, and continuous innovation. This complex interplay between creativity and business acumen can be difficult for those who are not creatives to comprehend, but we can work together to bridge that gap.

Driven by a strong sense of purpose and a clear mission, my creative journey aims to establish Webzav as a highly successful creative agency that breaks the traditional boundaries of design, marketing, and creative direction. I envision a world where creativity thrives and where Webzav is known for delivering innovative solutions that have a lasting impact on both businesses and individuals.
