We caught up with the brilliant and insightful A. Keith Turner a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
A. Keith, appreciate you joining us today. It’s easy to look at a business or industry as an outsider and assume it’s super profitable – but we’ve seen over and over again in our conversation with folks that most industries have factors that make profitability a challenge. What’s biggest challenge to profitability in your industry?
Realizing good margins in an industry that is flooded with competition…. Both automated and manual labor.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Accomplished business and tech entrepreneur with success and awards recognizing great leadership and service with excellent results performed for clients. Experience working with C-Suite executives, tech developers, and all the staff between. Additional business experience with financial management systems, customer relationship consulting, finance, and IT consulting.
HIGHLIGHT:
Tech based business consultant that works with companies to develop content, web/mobi applications, and data science analysis to increase business awareness and stimulate revenue for the client.
FOUNDER:
Established in 2002, very simply TurnGroup Technologies uses technology solutions to assist organizations reduce their operational cost, improve efficiencies, and increase sales/service.
Network design and deployment, social media management, information technology consulting, and website development (php, wp, .net) are among the services that TurnGroup provides its clientele.
We have been in business since April of 2002, and have acquired well over 50 clients in that time. Our staff includes highly educated and experienced IT technicians and generalist expertise in local government and policy. Our clients are mainly based in the Greater St. Louis area, and we are very interested in expansion to other markets across the United States, as well as in other English-speaking countries. TurnGroup’s target market consists of small businesses, government agencies, and not-for-profit organization that operate with
Revenues $25,000 to $40 million. Although we have a few clients based in the New York State, Virginia and Wisconsin areas, our primary clientele is located in the St. Louis, Missouri-Illinois metropolitan area.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
It is a challenge to be a first generation business owner, to create a structure and Capital to start a company and then build an organization with a small team and then go develop business and grow clients. It is a challenge in general and so it requires lots of planning and lots of introspection and lots of hard work. Tons of faith.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Absolutely we had to pivot in business because there were so many companies providing manage services and networks support that we ended up reducing our services in that space and creating more rules for web application mobile application development in order to take advantage did area in the technology space that was not fully saturated
