Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to A Good Sign Also Known As Kierstin Jackson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Kierstin, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
Music has always been the driving force of my life. As soon as I had an awareness for what a musician was I knew that’s what I needed to do. In pre-school when ever we had to talk about what we wanted to be when we grew up I’d always say a singer. Later in middle school, when I realized how much I loved writing poetry and songs ( and also became aware of different options in the music industry) I knew that writing songs for other artists is something I really wanted to do professionally as well as being a vocalist.
Kierstin, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a songwriter and vocalist— writing songs for other artists is my biggest passion! I moved to Nashville in 2015 to pursue a career in music. Right away I joined songwriters groups, started doing open mic nights and writers rounds, co-writing with other artists, meeting with publishers and producers, and taking music publishing classes at Nashville State— it all really helped to develop me as an artist! So many different genres of music have influenced me, like folk music, alternative, 90s grunge, bluegrass, 2010s rap, pop, country, and lots of different genres within EDM.
I would describe the music I’ve created so far as dream pop and fairy folk. I love writing for artists across all genres, I never limit my creativity and I really love all music— my playlists are always so diverse! I love writing for country artists because it really lets me get into my storytelling vibe.
Right now I have three singles out on Spotify; Numb, Soft Space, and My Parasite. I have two new singles coming out next year and some collaborations with artists I’ve always wanted to work with.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, one of the most rewarding aspects of being an artist is the happiness I get from being able to express my self creatively. I also find it super rewarding that my music makes people feel so many different emotions, whether it’s healing in a therapeutic way , or helping enhance happiness. I think one of the coolest parts of being an artist is that the music we create can help people navigate their emotions and explore themselves.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
When I first moved to Nashville I literally didn’t know one single person and had never been there. It was super scary moving far away from friends and family to pursue my dreams in a new city but I believed in myself and my dreams enough to full on go for it.
