We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful 8TH CITY. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with 8TH below.
8TH, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’ve love to hear an interesting investment story – what was one of the best or worst investments you’ve made? (Note, these responses are only intended as entertainment and shouldn’t be construed as investment advice)
“What’s the difference between 8TH CITY and Atlantic Records?” “Nothing to be exact.” I say that to say this! The best investment we’ve made is, investing in our own brand, 8TH CITY. I’m sure Atlantic, Universal, Interscope, etc., all started out as a small business entity. But now, each of those records labels are dominant entities in the music industry. You have to make $1 before you make $1 million. From a business prospective, music is something that we love to do but there so many other avenues of business that we’re involved in. For example, we have our own graphic designer, videography, clothing designer, as well as own shoe, “8TH CITY LIMITED EDITION, partnering with Alive Shoes”. So our dominant mission is to keep branding, 8TH CITY!

8TH, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
8TH CITY, is an independent group made up of (2) members, Ghetto Chris and Bread Junkie. Both of us started out as solo artist, until we decided to collab on a few projects. We then decided to establish our own independent promo tour, touching bases in NC, GA, DMV area and NY. We own 100% of all our music. We develop our own clothing. Everything we do is out-of-pocket and you have to trust the process. Yea, it a slow process, but better results and relationships in the long-run. We have an authentic fanbase that will continue to grow. What sets us apart from others is our involvement in mental health. On a weekly basis, we help individuals that are impacted by a disability. Our community present is a must for us.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Developing a budget is the most important factor to promoting oneself. You can have the hottest sound in the world, but if don’t nobody hear it, it’s just another song on your hard drive. Just like a business, there’s so many factors and components to becoming a household brand. “I encourage all music artist to learn the business.”

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
Learning how to develop patience. There nothing wrong with believing in yourself, but make sure you protect you craft.
