We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful 808s & Cold Takes. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with 808s & Cold Takes below.
808s & Cold Takes, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
At first, it was a podcast we started in 2021. We talked about music- specifically hiphop. After a few years of doing audio exclusive content, we decided to change our show and go for the more informative route with an emphasis on the local music and Art scene here in Arizona. So we started going to local events and shows and linking up with local artists in the area to see if they were down to do interviews. Things continued to grow from there! We’ve just wrapped up interviews for 2024, and we’re looking forward to talking to a lot of other artists in the new year!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
We are an artist media known as 808’s & Coldtakes. We are 4 guys from Arizona named Maxx, Brayden, Los, and Johan. We began first as a podcast mainly reviewing music, but in the past 1-2 years we’ve branched off to cover more of the local music scene and other artists. Since then we’ve conducted media coverage for multiple local events, given both short and long length interviews, and once in a while put out videos/podcasts on all of our thoughts on music/artists. So far what has helped give our brand it’s own identity is that we go into every project just being ourselves. At the end of the day, we’re just a small group of friends who wanna give our area a spotlight to help give it the same credit as other areas we’ve always respected that have put out all of our favorites in music and art overall. With that and how much fun it’s been to push the show in different directions, we’ve been the most proud of how much work we’ve put into this and how much of the local scene we’ve connected to. At this point we’re just ready to keep connecting with the music scene and give the locals a chance to give more of their voice out.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
The only way we’ve been ready to handle anything on the show is to be genuine with the people we connect with for whatever we’re working on. It’s given us a way to work with artists that’s very comfortable and lets them get their message out. In other cases like working with venues and events, we’ve had the privilege to showcase many spaces that give people who may not be as familiar a unique platform to check out all of what Arizona has to offer.
Can you open up about a time when you had a really close call with the business?
There was some time where we weren’t as consistent with our content because after a while we kept making content where effort was put in but creatively we got kinda formulaic. Once we started to take the next step and actually become more out there in the local music scene, it completely gave the show a new direction. It was when we stepped outside of our comfort zone that we started to officially visualize our goals for the show.
