Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to 6roovy Studios. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
6roovy, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I learned music production from watching YouTube videos, a close friend and reading forums, blogs and books. Knowing what I know now, I would have acted more rather than overthinking certain decisions, being a little too cautious held me back for some time. Being able to navigate the internet and being part of computer science were definitely handy for making the digital process of music easier to work with. I’ve been used to working with computer software so it was easier to adapt. At the time before I went full time, school was a big obstacle towards having time to learn more. At one point I would sleep 3 hours a night on school days so I could get homework done and manage to get practice.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I got into making music in 2015 due to wanting to find an outlet to be able to express myself. I got help from my father to get a laptop and my first microphone to start tracking ideas. I learned the basics from YouTube and reading forums. I fell into the music production rabbit hole and eventually got to producing instrumentals for my brother and a couple of friends from school. I got back into recording and it led to forming my recording studio. The services provided are recording, mixing, mastering, and instrumental production. I set myself apart from others because others charge extra fees for services that I include in one package. My main focus when working on other’s music is getting their full artistic vision across. I see myself as using what I learned as a way to translate the artist’s ideas into reality. I don’t stop tweaking until I get the full 100% approval from the artist.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My main mission with any music I touch is to help establish a connection between listener and the record. Anyone can hear a song, but its completely different to when you feel a song. Having people come up to the artists and hear them say “I can relate to this lyric” or have specific parts that they felt connected with is super important to me. Music was there for me in lonely moments of despair, I want to help provide that same comfort within others.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
My creative force prior to music was photography. I used cheap point and shoot cameras from garage sales or Walmart and would take it anywhere and shoot any object or scene. I started in middle school and stuck with it until 2015 when the transition to music was happening. I ended up getting high school credits for computer science and web design. My income at the time would come from 15 photoshoots and extra bookings I’d get for portraits. I ended up going to HCC for 2 semesters and was using the photography money to start building my own recording studio. Towards the middle to end of the second semester, Covid was super active and campus shut down. Taking the classes online and physically sitting in my room made me start considering what I truly wanted to pursue. I did end up switching careers and although those years and semesters may seem wasted, it is still a skill that comes very much in handy with running the studio.
