Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to 615mxb. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
615mxb, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
When it came to learning how to create music, I learned by just hopping on the software and figuring it out as I went, kind of like a video game. However, the internet did help a ton when it came to figuring out certain effects. I vividly remember when I was fourteen looking up “How to roll hi-hats” on Google. The process of learning something new and applying it to my music is a very rewarding feeling.
Knowing what I know now, I could have sped up the learning process by getting on the software a lot sooner. I was hesitant about starting a new craft like producing because of the hidden complexity of it all but sometimes in life you must put yourself in situations where it will force you to make something happen.
The skills that I believe are most essential when it comes to beat making are learning basic music theory, building rhythms, and being able to collaborate with others.
The common obstacle that stood in the way of learning more about beat making was being comfortable. I am now not unsure about trying out new genres of music every now and then. Once you find yourself making the same type of beat repeatedly, never be afraid to tweak a few things here and there. Doing this will allow you to explore more sounds and you might create something totally different.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is 615mxb and I am a Nashville based music producer. I got into producing just from having a deep musical background. Growing up I started playing percussion when I was nine years old and played all through elementary, middle, and high school. I started making beats when I was fourteen years old using GarageBand and then I graduated to Logic Pro X, which is the software I use today. What sets me apart from others is that I am big on keeping music genuine and creating experiences that do not feel fabricated. What I am most proud of right now is that I am working faster than ever. I have reached a point where I am just letting sounds build themselves which makes things a lot easier for me. This allows me to create music that sounds full and gives it some solidity. What I want people to know about my work is that I take my work very seriously and I am open to collaborating as much as possible.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
A lesson I had to unlearn was to not think too hard when it comes to creating. Creating music is an art that you can never force, and the best moments happen when they are unexpected. We might have depictions or ideas in our heads that we want to recreate which there is nothing wrong with. However, when you do that, you do not receive a genuine product of work. People can tell when a beat is made and if it has substance or not.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
There is no specific goal or mission driving my creative journey other than my passion for music. I make music not because it is my passion but because it inspires my peers. Putting a piece of work out there and satisfying the listener will always give me energy and makes me want to create even more.
