We caught up with the brilliant and insightful 4K Grip a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
4K, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I started rapping after I seen 2Pac “I Get Around”video the song the vibe of the video was fun and just made want to rap too me, my cousin, and friends would rap on this tape player on my granny porch it was fun and exciting. I like to think I was always a creative guy teachers and other people always told me I had a way with words and looking at things from a different point of view.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m a music video director / videographer I’m from Memphis, TN I got into music videos from my friend Scoota suggesting it to me he seen the vision before I seen it I always wanted to do something with music I rapped, tried engineering, producing, but filming is my calling. I film music videos , real estate videos, weddings, sporting events, interviews, etc my job is to make my client apiece of art that is memorable and that will last forever. Major Grip Production is my production company I have worked with many artist in the city the most notable being BigWalkDog , and NoHeartShad. Filming videos has allowed me to meet people in the industry like Gucci Mane, Lil Baby, producers and a&r’s at major labels.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
I knew I wanted to do some in life with music I started off as a rapper later I figured out I didn’t want to be in the lime light I tried making beats to be behind the scenes but that wasn’t for me either my friend suggested shooting videos then boom I started to have some success and found what’s perfect for me. Basically we know what we want to do but sometimes we have to realize that we have to take a different path or approach to get there.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I love being able to connect with people that share the same aspirations and dreams that I do. Seeing the process of a idea start from the beginning and come to fruition is a amazing feeling and sight to see. Seeing people smile and say they love my work is a good feeling and keeps me going also.
