We were lucky to catch up with 3MPOWERED recently and have shared our conversation below.

3MPOWERED, appreciate you joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?

(3mpowered is a singing trio with members Meagan, AArica, and Tatiana. Each member answered this question below.)

Meagan: I have always known that I wanted to be a creative! I was introduced to dance and theater at a very young age. My parents put me in dance classes when I was three and I never stopped! I originally thought I would go to college for dance, but instead I majored in arts and entertainment management & focused on performance art and dance. I’ve performed in various musicals with local community theaters and continued my love for the arts in dance, theatre, and singing with 3mpowered. 3mpowered has been such a great outlet for me to continue my love for performing and improving my talent!

AArica: I knew I wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally at a very young age. I started singing at the age of 5 and I play the piano as well. I love to sing so it only made sense for me to go to college and pursue a Music degree. In college, I was a voice principle and graduated with a degree in Music. When I sing and perform, I truly feel like I am a voice for the voiceless because I can convey thoughts and emotions on behalf of those who are still finding their voice. Whenever I sing, I aim to inspire and empower others, which is why I am so glad that I found this singing group. The ability to create something out of thin and air and perform it for an audience has always been a magical and beautiful experience that I never get tired of.

Tatiana: I started singing when I was in the second grade in my church choir. From then till now, I have continued to sing and there has never been a point in my life where I haven’t been singing, whether it was in a choir, private voice lessons, or singing groups. Now this may sound cliché, but the Spice Girls made me want to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally. The Spice Girls were the ones who really developed the concept of “girl power” and female empowerment. When I was in elementary school, myself, my sister and three of my friends practiced to enter a talent show at our school where we would perform “Spice Up Your Life.” I guess that was the first girl group I ever joined! The Spice Girls inspired me so much with their music and their message. Ever since then, I have always wanted to be in a girl group and perform professionally. I am so glad that I am in 3mpowered where we can spread our empowerment message and inspire others.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

3mpowered (pronounced “Empowered”) is an Orlando-based female singing group that performs covers of pop/R&B songs. 3mpowered was founded in January 2018 by Tatiana because she wanted to form a singing group that showcased a group of women that younger females could look up to in this community. Tatiana and two other female singers met up on January 21, 2018, sang together in a car in the parking lot of a Starbucks and 3mpowered was formed. We sing mainly empowerment songs so that we can remind women of their value and worth.

The current lineup of 3mpowered consists of the three of us (Tatiana, AArica, and Meagan). Tatiana connected with Meagan through Instagram in early October 2021 and met AArica through a mutual friend in late October 2021.

When forming 3mpowered, Tatiana wanted to highlight the importance of getting an education while also pursuing one’s dream of being an entertainer, so all three of us have our undergraduate degrees. Tatiana and AArica have postgraduate degrees as well. Meagan is currently in grad school and soon she will be graduating with her postgraduate degree!

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?

Female empowerment! This group was formed because of a desire to perform songs with the goal of showcasing female empowerment. It is so important for women & young girls to be uplifted and to be told that they matter, which is our message when we perform.

We love inspiring young girls with our group’s message. We will look out from the stage while we are performing and see them dancing along with us and engaged in our performances. This is great to see because we really want this group to reflect females in a positive light and be positive role models for females in the community.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?

We love to perform and we’re so fortunate that we get the ability to do that on a regular basis in this group. It is so rewarding to get positive feedback from the audience when we’re performing. At one of our recent gigs, we had a very supportive female audience member who was singing along with us and shouting out words of encouragement. We loved her energy and it made us perform at a higher level. When the audience positively responds to us, it really makes all the long nights and long practices worth it!
