Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to 303JAC. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
303JAC, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
I am 100% happier being a creative in this lifetime than anything else. I feel like I am a kid all over again, ever single day. Anything I imagine, I can create. I’m not going to lie to you, I am very much still in the “day-job” period of my life so it’s very cool to see both worlds. Many of my artist friends can relate as well. The thought of assuming a “regular life” goes through my head every day, although I think my life is still pretty regular, I am blessed with an amazing position in this life.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Well, I guess I can now say that I really started making home videos at a young age just with my parents cameras that they owned growing up. I was a very ambitious kid and always wanted to try everything I could, which happened to be in the creative arts aspect of life. By 17, I was fully wrapped up in graphic design and charging for little commissions here and there. My reach began to grow blessing me with the opportunity to work with Moneybagg Yo, Yo Gotti, Big Sean and many more.
Years later, I now have a hand in managing a few artists in Nashville including $avvy and am a part of the collective known as the Dadabase. I make a living through photography, videography, graphic design, creative direction, and really anything visual.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Position yourself as an asset to the creative community as much as you can. I know in Nashville, I would not be who I am without my peers. You are only as good as the people that you are surrounded by. Move with pure intention.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
The idea of perfection. Often times making something “perfect” can ruin the product. Trust your gut. Don’t let it hinder the process, there is more to the bigger picture and more ideas to create. Move your mind organically everyday and keep every part of yourself as healthy as possible.
