We caught up with the brilliant and insightful 2MamaBees a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

2MamaBees , appreciate you joining us today. What can you share with us about the story behind how you found your key vendors?

Craftsmanship has always been our top priority. Being mothers ourselves, we have gone through the never-ending cycle of broken and poorly made toys. We wanted to create a brand that could withstand generations of family use while also remaining aesthetically timeless. Being made in America was another one of our top priorities as we did not want to be another mass-manufactured brand. We wanted our pieces to be hand-touched, non-toxic and authentic to our story. 2MamaBees products are all proudly manufactured by skilled, generational Amish artisans. We take great pride in being able to work hand-in-hand with some of the most hard-working and talented craftsmen. We see our entire process through from conception to completion. We know every artisan by name, we sit down to dinner with their families. Although we are sold in big-box stores we have stayed true to our backyard, family-based roots.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

2MamaBees goal has always been simple: to provide families with safe, stylish outdoor gear that will get kids excited about spending time in nature. We make the finest quality playhouses, tested to meet and exceed safety standards, while adding a contemporary aesthetic to any backyard or indoor play space. Our playhouses are inspired by the modern farmhouse design – a favorite among contemporary luxury homes. We really tried to take into consideration every aspect of playtime with our own kids when we designed our products. Our playhouses are all almost six feet tall inside to create room for parents to comfortably play as well. Finding ways to involve sensory play, motor development and environmental consciousness was also very important to us, which is why our stove handles click, our faucet knobs turn, our play food can be cut in half and our window boxes can be used to plant real flowers or herbs.

Have you ever had to pivot?

2MamaBees’ story has its roots in our own backyards. We are childhood best friends, mothers to five children at the time, searching for a way to generate extra income to support our families. We started small, operating an Etsy shop where we sold window boxes and porch bed swings. One day, in a spontaneous burst of creativity, we decided to give Samantha’s backyard playhouse a makeover to better complement her outdoor space. The transformation was so charming that we couldn’t resist showcasing it on our Etsy shop to see if anyone else shared our enthusiasm. This impulsive decision marked a pivotal turning point in our lives. The response was overwhelming, with orders flooding in faster than we could have ever imagined.
In a few short months, our small Etsy Shop outgrew the backyard and expanded into one warehouse, then two, before eventually blossoming into a full-fledged manufacturing venture. This marked the birth of our own brand of playhouses and children’s products under the name 2MamaBees, officially launching in October 2021.
Our journey, from those initial backyard aspirations to a thriving brand, embodies the spirit of determination, creativity, and entrepreneurialism that defines 2MamaBees.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?

The children’s toy industry is extremely competitive. We knew that to establish a household name, we needed to create top-quality pieces that would withstand the test of time. As mothers of now eight children, we approach the design of all 2MamaBees products with an unwavering commitment to every facet of play. We dedicate months to perfecting every detail, driven by our mission to make playtime with parents readily accessible. Our playhouses, standing almost 6 feet in height, ensure parents can comfortably join in the fun. It’s a reflection of our belief that play is best enjoyed together. What truly sets 2MamaBees apart is our commitment to quality craftsmanship. Our products are proudly manufactured in America by skilled Amish artisans. Each piece is meticulously crafted, receiving the personal touch of multiple hands to ensure unmatched quality. We don’t just create toys; we construct heirloom pieces designed to be cherished and passed down through generations.
