Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to 2DNK. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
2DNK, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
I don’t regret the time that I chose to start. I say this because it took me a while to really tell myself to take the risk and go for it. I started freestyling back in middle school with one of my closest friends and back then I was being told to try and write songs and go for it but it just didn’t feel right. I had a lot of stuff growing up that I had to deal with and it really made me focus more on taking care of the household then doing my own thing for fun. Once I was able to finally provide for myself I decided to take the chance and go for it but that I have to thank to my cousins and homies for really believing in me. If I had started sooner with the music I believe it wouldn’t have been how it is now. I think the timing just fell in to place and made sense due to everything and where I was at in my life.
2DNK, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My artist name is 2DNK pronounced “2 DANK”. I was raised in a small town called Fallbrook located in San Diego County. My whole life I’ve always had a love for music and the different styles and flows it has to offer. I first got into creating music when I was young, still in middle school by creating freestyles with my friends. It wasn’t until I was older that I officially went for it and recorded my first song “Born Broke”. The type of music I create is unique to me because I speak on my own experiences which some people may or may not relate too. That’s probably what I’m most proud of, the fact that I care about keeping songs real to myself. I do mostly make hip hop/rap style music, but I definitely don’t have one style or flow. When I write music I go off how the beat makes me feel. So each one has its own individual vibe to it. I’m giving this my all and I really appreciate all of you who are continuing to show me love. Shoutout to you!
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding part of all of this so far has been the feedback I get from my fans as well as meeting them. I love hearing which songs are their favorite and which ones they related too the most. I enjoy meeting everyone who wants to meet me as well. I think everyone is unique in there own way and have there own life experiences that helped shape them into the person they are today. I put a lot of work into the songs I create as well as the content I post on my page so when people support what I do or can relate in any way, it makes me feel good. Whenever I find out someone played my music it really does bring a smile to my face.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I first started my social media account about 3 years ago & I can tell you that its not easy. There’s millions of opportunities and networking, but its not easy to gain followers, it doesn’t happen just over night. The more and more you be yourself I promise you is going to be your best route. People like seeing other people doing what they love. You should never feel like you need to post certain things to become trending or “fit in”. Everyone is unique in there own way, If someone doesn’t like you don’t let them be the one to bring you down. I treat other people how I would want to and if they dislike me by what I post then I don’t let it get me. There’s always room to grow and improve yourself and your audience, but with the social media side of it people are going off what they can see, that’s why always try and be true to yourself. The more you believe in yourself the better the outcome, because only you can help you, get to where YOU want to be.
