We recently connected with 1ne Chance and have shared our conversation below.
1ne Chance, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
So I’m originally from Asheville N.C. The biggest risk I’ve taken was moving to Atlanta without any family or close relatives. Scary journey but it’s payed off in so many great ways. Meeting new people, going new places. The road of the unknown, God has used it to open doors in my music and ministry, opportunities that I probably wouldn’t have had if I would have stayed in my comfort zoneback in my hometown.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers?
Well to start, I go by the name 1ne chance. I’m a Christian/gospel/positive rap artist. I started out as a secular artist around the age of 12. Me and a few friends got together one day and decided we wanted to be rappers lol so we formed a group and as the cliche saying goes, the rest is history.
Fast forward as my life began to change I also reflected that in my music. Growing up in a rough part of town, I became easily influenced by the drug activity in my neighborhood, which led me down a somewhat troublesome road.
Catching a drug charge at the age of 15 I slowly realized after a few years of bumping my head on the same walls, that wasn’t the life I wanted, so I made a choice to be different, follow God and Use my music to reach those who were just like I once was. A young boy from the projects who just needed a little bit of positive guidance.
What sets me apart is my fingerprint. God created each of us with our own fingerprint. Not one person on the face of this earth has the same fingerprint, not even twins. How unique it is to know that all we have to do is be our authentic self, the person that God originally created us to be, and that’s what makes us different. Just being me. That’s it lol the drawing may look similar but my fingerprint gives it that distinctive originality..
I’m most proud of the person I’ve become. Considering the life I once lived. It’s truly a blessing to see the growth when you look back. God is good.
At the end of the day I just want people to know that I love God, I love music and I love my family. I’m a Christian but I would never force my faith on anyone. I have a heart to see people saved, but I live and let live. 1Love
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
So growing up I’ve always been taught to work hard, sleep can wait. But as I’ journey though life, I come to realize that rest is just as important as working hard.
Long story short, I had to experience burnout to get that lesson.
Yes, work hard but don’t forget to rest as well.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I think moving to Atlanta with nothing, no family, no friends, no car and barely a place to stay is just one of those stories that I look back on with optimism. It inspires me when I think back to all I’ve overcome these last 13 years. Days I was so close to giving up but didn’t, only by Gods grace. That’s resilience to me
