One of the most important ways to have a large impact in life is by focusing on communities that are ignored and overlooked. These communities are often the ones most in need of help, tools, and services but for a variety of reasons the largest players in most industries chose not to work on serving them. We’ve been so touched by the thousands of members of our community who are working on serving the underserved from tackling food deserts to building empowering solutions for the neurodiverse. Each week, you’ll find us highlighting folks serving underserved communities.

I hope this is not interpreted incorrectly because I am using the meaning for “underserved’ in a different context than how most people would construe it. I am not talking about the economic disparity in our community, which is unfortunately only growing vaster. Read more>>

My business focuses on centering and celebrating the LGBTQIA+ community through visual representation and story telling. While so many attacks are coming for the queer and trans communities, I am photographing their love, sharing their stories and creating time capsules. As the current administration is trying to eliminate and hide trans people from existence, I’m here pushing back and showing that not only are we here, we’re thriving. We are experiencing love, we are growing our families, we are strengthening our communities, and we will not be stopped. Read more>>

Giving back to the community is at the heart of what I do, and being able to provide a Day of Care for the unhoused is an experience I hold dear with Marianna Frank and her husband. Partnering with a mobile shower unit, I had the privilege of not only helping individuals freshen up but also offering haircuts and hairstyles (which is my gift to the world) clothing, and shoes to those in need. Seeing the joy and confidence restored through something as simple as a retwisting locs reminds me why I love this craft. Read more>>

At Lemonade Coaching & Consulting, our mission is centered on helping nonprofits grow, thrive, and create meaningful impact—especially for those who are too often underserved. While I work with organizations across a wide range of causes, my current focus is on one that’s especially close to my heart: expanding access to veterinary care. With a background in strategically developing one of the country’s first low-cost veterinary hospitals, I’ve seen how life-changing it can be when families—regardless of income or housing status—are able to care for their beloved pets. The human-animal bond is powerful, and I believe everyone deserves the opportunity to experience it. Read more>>

One time at Career Wardrobe, we were doing hair and makeup for their annual event, and I had built a team to support the women being served. One woman in particular stood out. She didn’t want to wear makeup, didn’t care to get her hair done. At first, I wondered why she came at all if she didn’t want to be bothered. But as the day went on, she started sharing pieces of her story. There had been so much disappointment in her life that she was guarded—she expected nothing good to come of the day. Read more>>
