One of the most important ways to have a large impact in life is by focusing on communities that are ignored and overlooked. These communities are often the ones most in need of help, tools, and services but for a variety of reasons the largest players in most industries chose not to work on serving them. We’ve been so touched by the thousands of members of our community who are working on serving the underserved from tackling food deserts to building empowering solutions for the neurodiverse. Each week, you’ll find us highlighting folks serving underserved communities.

My purpose is to teach wisdom to the world. The way I do that is by ‘speaking truth to power’ and by ’empowering the underserved, undervalued and overlooked’. I haven’t taken an oath to only focus on providing money or time to help the homeless or the uneducated, but I also have committed to helping people that are in corporate America to realize their full potential via changing their mindset. No matter what a person’s title is in a corporation, Read more>>

One of the biggest challenges facing museu’s today is access. Admission fees can be out of reach, and public transportation may not serve a museum’s location with ease. At Visions Museum of Textile Art (VMoTA), where I have the privilege to serve as Executive Director, admission is free. We are grateful to our many donors who make this possible! I am also honored to be the President of the Board of Directors of the San Diego Museum Council (SDMC). Read more>>

Jessica came to me feeling swamped by her everyday life. Between a busy work schedule and her kids, she never had time or energy to do things just for herself. What mom does, right? She also was worried about her body had changed since kids, and trying to accept and love it for where she is now. She booked a boudoir session to try and find her confidence and her Jessica-ness again, and even though she was super nervous, she was excited too! Read more>>

For the past 15 years working as a creative, from photography to writing to UX Design, my mission has never changed: To use my talents to inspire and help those within the Black community. I have worked with so many people within the community that worked in undesirable jobs or situations, but had great ideas and the desire to chase their dreams to start their own business or product. They just need guidance and a plan to execute it. Read more>>

Women with curves have been underestimated and underserved for decades. These facts are true. Most women will need to find a brand that only makes larger clothing, limiting style and choices. We want to create a brand that includes everyone. XBQINI sizes include, size xsmall through XXXL and offer the latest trendy, unique fashion that has no limits to body type. We are honored to serve and represent all the beautiful women seeking to fit into a bikini in their size in our market. Read more>>

Today, there are millions of people in need in America. By serving the underserved community, it really shows how many people are being left behind and hidden throughout our streets. Although serving takes care of their immediate needs, it is dire that we have more housing solutions for those that are on unsheltered. I decided to create a documentary series entitled, No Address, to expose what is actually happening in the backyards of America. Read more>>

Several years ago, a customer reached out to me saying that while our products were soft and comfortable, they still proved irritating to their son with autism. When I became aware of the extreme texture sensitivity common in those with autism, I realized what an impact our clothing could have it was specifically designed with these people in mind. A huge part of our mission is to make those with this extreme texture sensitivity happier and more comfortable in their day-to-day lives. Read more>>

I recognized that steep inflation in grocery prices–currently at 11.9% vs. prior year–is having a severe impact on the 40% of Houston households who struggle to make ends meet. Especially hard hit are low-income families and individuals living on fixed incomes, such as seniors, the disabled, and veterans. So to address the growing need for food, Second Servings, Houston’s only perishable food rescue organization, launched an initiative known as the “PopUp Grocery Store” program. Read more>>
