Today we’d like to introduce you to Zoë Anne Kessler.
Hi Zoë Anne, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Thank you for the question. I am deeply grateful to be here, at this exciting point in my life and career. With a rich portfolio of work—including two indie-pop albums, four feature film screenplays, and a collection of Impressionistic-Pointillism paintings—I feel incredibly fortunate to now be focusing on acting, modeling, and bringing my films to life through production.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
While every artist has a unique journey to share, when I reflect on my life and everything that has led me to this moment, I can’t help but feel like the luckiest girl in the world.
Two guiding forces in my life that have brought me to this point are Yin Yoga—which I’ve practiced daily for the past four years—and long-distance running. While I deeply appreciate the tranquil rhythm of golf and the spirited competition of squash, there is a singular joy I find in running mile after mile. It’s in that steady cadence, the open road, and the meditative flow of movement that I feel most connected to myself and the world around me.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As I shift gears back into acting, my foundation and specialty remain rooted in screenwriting. What truly sets my work apart is the unique blend of an extraordinary life journey and an uncommon devotion to art. From a young age, I felt a deep connection to every artistic medium I encountered—acting, wire art, piano, guitar, painting, photography, writing, ukulele—yet I chose a traditional path in college, majoring in History, and later immersed myself in the corporate world, creating art on the side.
I am deeply grateful for this unconventional path, as it allowed me to explore diverse facets of myself, embrace continuous growth, and uncover profound life lessons. These experiences have enriched my storytelling, infusing my films with authenticity and depth drawn from the complexities of real life.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
I am eternally grateful to my mom for her unwavering belief in me, to Jack Lechner for imparting his wisdom and formally teaching me screenwriting at Columbia, to Pete Toth for being a lifelong mentor from the very day I was born, and to my dear friends Emporia Meng, Nasta Diahaby, and Karishma Shah for lifting me up during moments of doubt. I am profoundly blessed.
