Today we’d like to introduce you to Zhané Fludd
Hi Zhané, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My photography journey began just a year ago when I brought my first canon camera. I was initially drawn to photography as a way to express moments through photography. I started by taking photos of dogs and family.
As I explored more, I discovered various photography styles and became particularly interested in vintage aesthetics. I loved the warmth and character that old photographs conveyed, so I began researching vintage photography techniques.
I dedicated time to practice, often shooting in local parks and urban settings to recreate that nostalgic feel. I also joined my big brother in photographing events, where I learned a lot from him. Through constructive feedback and inspiration from fellow photographers and friends, I began to develop my unique style.
Within a year, I’ve had the opportunity to work on a few projects, including portraits and themed shoots, and even collaborated with some people. I’ve learned so much and I’m excited to see how my skills will continue to grow.
Today, I’m passionate about capturing stories and moments with a vintage flair, and I look forward to what the future holds as I continue to develop my craft!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been a rewarding journey, but it hasn’t always been smooth. Early on, I faced a few challenges that tested my dedication and patience.
One significant struggle was mastering technical skills. Learning how to properly use the camera settings—like exposure, aperture, and shutter speed—took time and practice. There were moments when I felt frustrated, especially when my photos didn’t turn out as I envisioned.
There were times when I felt I wasn’t progressing as quickly as I wanted to, which led to self-doubt.
However, each struggle ultimately became a learning experience. Seeking feedback from my brother and fellow photographers helped me grow and refine my skills. Overcoming these obstacles has made my journey more fulfilling, and I appreciate the progress I’ve made along the way.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
When I’m not behind the camera, I work at a rescue center for pit bulls, which has been an incredibly fulfilling experience. My role involves a variety of responsibilities, including caring for the dogs, managing their daily activities, and helping with adoption events. I also work closely with volunteers and the community to promote awareness about the breed and the importance of rescue.
I specialize in engaging with the dogs that enhance the dogs’ socialization and training, helping them become more adoptable. I’m known for my ability to connect with the dogs and understand their individual needs, which allows me to build trust and improve their behavior. I also focus on educating potential adopters about pit bulls, sharing their positive traits and dispelling common misconceptions.
What I’m most proud of is witnessing the transformation of the dogs in our care. Many of them come from challenging backgrounds, and seeing them thrive in a loving environment is incredibly rewarding. I take great joy in helping match dogs with their forever homes, knowing that I played a part in their journey.
What sets me apart from others is my combination of hands-on experience with dogs and my photography skills. It’s fulfilling to know that my work in both areas contributes to creating a positive impact on my life.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Well, I’m from The Bronx born and raised lol. what I love most about the Bronx is its vibrant cultural heritage and the unique neighborhoods. The borough is home to a rich tapestry of history, from the beautiful architecture of the Grand Concourse to the street art and murals that tell the stories of its diverse communities. The Bronx offers a mix of old and new, with classic buildings juxtaposed against modern elements, providing a fascinating backdrop for vintage-inspired photography. I’m particularly drawn to the parks, like Pelham Bay Park and Van Cortlandt Park, which offer natural beauty and a sense of tranquility amidst the urban landscape.
On the other hand, what I like least about the Bronx is the perception and stereotypes that often overshadow its positive aspects. My borough is sometimes unfairly characterized by crime and neglect, which can impact how people view it as a location. However, I believe that highlighting the beauty, stories, and resilience of the Bronx through my photography can help change that narrative and showcase the incredible spirit of my Community.
