Today we’d like to introduce you to Yien Truong
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started my journey working with concrete at the start of the pandemic when everything was closed except for a few essentials. It turns out that Home Depot was open. I had always wanted to work with concrete and thought that this was the perfect opportunity.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I had started working with concrete using Tupperware and takeout containers. This gave me the perfect opportunity to play with concrete without much of an investment. I was able to experiment and really understand the basics of concrete and its chemistry. Slowly, I incorporated more colors, texture, and add the different shapes and designs I was craving. I realize that to continue working with concrete I had to consider selling my creations at local markets and online. This is where I had faced more challenges and perhaps some struggles all related to running a business. I had to learn from scratch how to build a website and understand the basics of running a small business.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I love working with colors, incorporating different colours into concrete, what colours work together to create an aesthetic look and being able to consistently create the same shade or a shade that my customers request. I very much enjoy consistently Introducing new colours, shape, and design to my customers. I think what sets me apart Is the unique colours that I Incorporate into my concrete and the one of a kind designs. I don’t often make for example, a white planter or a black planter but when I do, I enjoy adding different shades and textures to give it a unique, one-of-a-kind look.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I think no matter what business you’re in, being nice thoughtful understanding is the most important characteristic one should always have. I try to put myself in my customers shoe to better understand what they may want and what good customer service consist of.
