Today we’d like to introduce you to Wilma Davidson
Wilma, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Nerd. Studious. Respectful of parents and teachers and those in authority. Enjoyed helping others. Became a high school teacher, earned graduate degrees, taught teachers how to teach better, Traded my school classrooms for corporate classrooms and taught executives how to communicate better–in writing and in person. Wrote articles and books about communication. Did so for almost 40 years!
And then, I ventured into writing a new genre: a children’s book–and it was published! What fun, so I wrote another–and it is in the process of being published. Love all my careers–teaching and helping others feel good about themselves.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Nothing in life is easy. While I have enjoyed success, it has been due to my persistence and hard work. Overall, struggles have been small in the scheme of things–largely due to my resilience and attitude. And to my belief that each struggle or disappointment will lead me somewhere else and I’ll learn from it.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Aside from coaching others how to communicate better, I write. I specialized in writing about communicating and doing feature stories; but now I am enthralled with writing children’s stories that send positive messages.
I’m most known for my expertise in coaching others.
As for what I am most proud of? Perhaps all the clients who have found my coaching helpful–and also receiving my pilot’s license and IFR rating!!
What sets me apart from others? Perhaps that I can convey all my research and academic knowledge in ways that people can grasp. A client once told me, “You don’t talk like a Ph.D.” I took that as a compliment!
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was studious, obedient, respectful, and a good friend. But I was also a huge baseball fan and loved watching my team play! I loved swimming and became a swimming instructor — so I guess I was destined to be a teacher from early on.
