Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyeshia Petrie
Hi Tyeshia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story begins as a young girl who was always passionate about expressing myself in different forms, with my favorites being art and writing. I was the child who always tried to put my best foot forward, whether it was completing school projects that required explaining complex concepts in essays or creating intricate pieces for art class. However, as I grew older, I began to distance myself from my artistic interests, becoming more focused on trying to follow a secure path of what “success” was supposed to look like for a young Black woman in the United States. Outside influences never failed to remind me about the importance of education and having something to fall back on career-wise no matter what. It felt like having hobbies was only cool if it could lead to something clear-cut in the long run, like a sports scholarship, which I didn’t have.
I now realize that an effort to reconnect with what I strayed away from, led me to start my blog, Trust the Transformation, to uplift and inspire others while sharing my original artwork. Unexpectedly, it became my safe space to speak about the wisdom I had gained through my unique living experience and reach those who could resonate. Despite establishing this positive outlet, I faced numerous obstacles that forced me to question what I wanted for my future and my life.
After leaving college, I found a job as a Marketing Assistant because I wanted a position that allowed me to use my writing and visual expression talents, while also incorporating my love for research and strategic thinking. Three seemingly long but simultaneously fast years later, I now hold a position as an Audience Development Specialist, helping to exponentially grow brands and businesses using content strategy, data-driven decision-making, and SEO. I am also focused on Trust the Transformation being acknowledged globally as a sacred space where creatives and entrepreneurs can find inspiration to follow their dreams, express themselves confidently, and live a fulfilling life by evolving into their highest selves.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been an easy journey. College was one of the most trying times in my life, and I don’t think I’ve ever digested how much it affected me mentally. I was trying to learn myself as an emerging adult with the ability to roam freely in the world while attempting to wrap my head around everything that was changing for me. Professionally, now as a career woman, I faced considerable rejection while trying to advance my career and pursue the roles I truly desired. Imposter syndrome also became a significant obstacle, preventing me from sometimes attempting to reach for what I wanted, as I often felt undeserving. It took me a long time to realize how many opportunities I let slip by simply because I wouldn’t allow myself the chance to try. Although there were moments when I felt confident in my pursuits and remained focused on my visions—including Trust the Transformation—life has proven to be unpredictable. I’ve had to sacrifice time, energy, and money, even when I struggled to find the resources to support my projects, as I’ve always been fiercely independent.
There were periods when self-doubt would creep in, making me question if the effort I would put in was worth it. I can recall multiple occurrences when I felt like giving up because the support I expected either wasn’t there or didn’t come from the people I thought would provide it. Focusing on what I lacked only amplified the sense of scarcity because I wasn’t taking action and making the most of what I already had to foster the growth I desired to see. It wasn’t until I began viewing my challenges as opportunities for expansion that I realized how crucial they were for my journey to achieve what I purposed in my heart. These hardships pushed me to expand my thinking, innovate beyond conventional limits, and use my dedication as a driving force—not allowing setbacks to demotivate me, but instead using them as motivation to persevere.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As mentioned earlier, I work professionally as an Audience Development Specialist in the digital and content marketing industry. My daily responsibilities involve scouring the Internet for fresh ideas and leveraging audience data insights to create original content for various brands, organizations, and industries. I specialize in using my writing skills paired with abstract and eccentric thinking to keep content engaging and entertaining, with a focus on developing informative articles and blog posts for websites.
Regarding my brand, Trust the Transformation, I’m recognized for sharing my personal experiences and encouraging messages through written and video content across platforms dedicated to my blog. I also create original artwork that coincides with the themes I explore. One of my proudest achievements is having the ability to share an intimate part of myself with the world—something I once disregarded as unworthy of pursuit—only to see it bring opportunities I never imagined including my old Marketing Assistant job. I also take great pride in finding a career path that aligns perfectly with my passions, allowing me to create space for what I genuinely love daily.
What distinguishes me from others is how much I allow my talents to shape my career without compromising my creative expression. I continuously refine my drawing and painting skills, letting heartfelt inspiration guide me. I write with courage and conviction about topics I feel called to address, offering my readers a glimpse into my mindset while encouraging them to embrace their uniqueness just as I have.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I envision the digital and content marketing industry evolving significantly over the next 5-10 years, moving towards bigger and bolder ideas magically brought to life by everyday individuals who learn to harness the tools available through the power of technology. There will be a strong focus on leveraging devices, like smartphones and computers, to transform simple concepts into unorthodox projects (movies, for example) and thriving online businesses. With tools like Canva, CapCut, and an ever-growing range of AI applications becoming more sophisticated, I see the creator economy becoming even more accessible to all, leading to rapid and monumental growth.
More people will begin to embrace their innate abilities (and ones discovered) and use them to generate wealth and create the lifestyle they desire by doing what comes naturally to them. We’ve already seen this trend among content creators across virtually every social platform, and I believe it will only continue to expand and become more commonplace. The key to success will be rooted in continually refining these skills to keep audiences intrigued and engaged with the value offered. A portal of opportunity has opened, and those who recognize it can and will take advantage.
