Today we’d like to introduce you to Tia Metaxas
Hi Tia , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
For me, life really started when I believed in myself and in even my wildest dreams being possible. Especially that this belief has taken me the other side of the world; I think that that’s the point, you can start anywhere as long as you believe that what you want is possible. It is all about setting a goal and commanding your actions toward achieving that. Years of dedicated work on my crafts, practice, work on myself, strengthening my mindset and it takes a lot of planning and dedication. It also takes lots of persistence and determination, I think, to get to any point in your career or life where you feel like you’ve accomplished goals that you’re working towards.
It’s a lot of hard work and passion.
Fifteen years ago, sitting in Melbourne, Australia, with a dream to travel and one day live in New York, seemed far-fetched. Now I can say I have traveled to many places and find New York my new home. If you want something for yourself, most likely it’s for reason, so don’t let your story stop at the part where things are not working out; keep going ‘til you are flowing.
Some steps that have helped me achieve my goals include planning, seeking out advice, educating myself and ups killing myself – and always giving things my best shot especially when they are outside my comfort zone.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been a smooth road and I think it’d be easy to go back and talk about how past struggles have been difficult to keep pursuing the harder route of life, but to keep it real this year has been a struggle.
Even though I’ve been able to get my dream job in NYC (the city I’ve been working towards moving to) it hasn’t been smooth and easy I think that moving anywhere new isn’t easy but. New York is the honestly the hardest city in the world and I think that when you don’t have a local support system and you don’t have quite literally somewhere to live, you really do realize who is in your corner and who are the people that really care. For me a really hard moment happen when a week before my move to NY, my accomodation fell through. Now I had heard a lot of stories about this kind of thing, but when I was put in this situation it really challenged my in every kind of way. I was fortunate to have an incredible partner who supported me, but the road has been rough to say the least.
When moving countries it takes having a village and this has been the most important part to continuing to be able to live my dreams, so shout out to my family and loved ones.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a marketer and content creator. I’ve been in marketing for 10 years with a bachelor in business & marketing. What I do inside of that is I help companies find ways to get their brand to their target markets. From creating websites, to social media creations, to photo-shoots to branding, you name it, it’s a big realm of skills. I’ve been a marketing generalist for the past 10 years what I love the most about it is when I can see a client has a problem and we can take it from zero to the end and see success. I love hearing stakeholders give great feedback and making anything possible that a client wants. What sets me apart from other people is really my persistence and drive to always find a result, a solution, I really do believe in the win-win mentality. I think that there’s always a way to get what you want as a business practitioner, as a marketer, as a creative, and to make the client happy. I think that I have always strived for that throughout my career.
I love content creating for brands because I get to showcase my creativity and being in-front of the camera or behind allows me to use my background in sales, acting, marketing, and photography to showcase a brand.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
My biggest piece of advice is to just smile at people when you’re at networking events and try your hardest to talk to people even though it may feel really awkward at the start. I think that if you go to networking events at least try and meet one or two people – well that’s my strategy, and if I smile first, it generally makes it easier to break the ice. My other big tip is to actually just live your life aligned to your passions. Some of my biggest mentors I’ve met have been in the most random places like at the gym and I think that it’s really important to stay in line with your truth and you’ll meet people on the way that can become really influential.
