Today we’d like to introduce you to Terrye Morgan.
Terrye, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’m a self-taught braider and have been braiding for many years. I decided to acquire my natural hair license at the Magic Fingers Institute where I built upon my braiding skills and learned to care for natural hair. My Muses as I affectionately call my clients inspire me every day and is the reason I decided to name my business Hairmuse. The care and attention to client detail has become an expectation. My Muses are coming from all 5 New York City boroughs and some from out of state. It is a pleasure to serve my Hairmuse community.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
So far, it’s been a smooth road. My Hairmuse community makes it easy for me as my Muses are all special individuals who inspire me to execute a very personalized and high quality service. I believe when a vision is meant to be, it all comes together for both client and stylist.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a licensed natural hair stylist which means I care for natural hair. Hairmuse provides braiding services, various protective style options, various natural hair maintenance services, and personalized kids braid classes. What sets me apart from others is that I am also a licensed teacher. You can expect to get a light-weight and tension -free style and also learn healthy hair tips to maintain the style while caring for your natural hair. Healthy hair always comes first. I respect and protect hair edges. In addition, special attention is given during the pre-natal braid service as expecting mothers are given pre-natal safe snacks, extra comfortable seating and stretch breaks. Careful consideration is taken for my youngest clients during the mini muse braid services.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
My Central American – Caribbean background influences my practice. All of the products that I use has some connection to my roots. Using sour sop and sorrel tea hair rinses or oiling the scalp with castor oil are just some of the ways I have infused my culture into natural hair services. I love traveling to the Caribbean to find resources that support natural hair growth and healthy hair practices.
