Today we’d like to introduce you to TBJ Ohab
Hi TBJ, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Hello! 😊
My names are Ohab Tochukwu Bernard Johnbosco, known as Ohab TBJ.
A Nigerian born visual artist and illustrator.
I’ve been an artist as long as I can remember.
My story began when I was very little. Back then, I was a kid who enjoys doodling with his older siblings for fun.
As children, my immediate elder brother Mikel is pretty good with his drawings back then and I was only trying to emulate his footsteps…you know how kids do hahha!
Somewhere between playing around & drawing for fun alongside my brothers as kids, I started picking some interest in taking art as a career seriously. A few years down the line and with the support of my parents I was opportune to attend an art school as a teenager. From there onwards…thankfully, I started growing! :)
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been smooth of course.
I think every career path has got its up & downs and artists aren’t exempted.
As a teen artist back then, there was this phase when I was trying to figure out how to go about carving a niche for myself and also become successful while doing it. I was heavily discouraged by a few family friends & relations who couldn’t see the sense in the career choice I was willing to embark. Listening to them almost discouraged me on becoming an artist, but thankfully enough my parents and my siblings never had doubts and their unwavering faith & support really kept me going.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a visual artist & illustrator who masterfully incorporates intricate lines, patterns, and Ankara fabric-inspired designs in their artwork.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
As an artist, to be able to have my work resonate with thousands of people globally is success.
A lot of people love my work.
A lot of people are inspired by my work.
A lot of people pay me for my work and I am super grateful for everything.
