Today we’d like to introduce you to Sam Phish.
Hi Sam, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Electric Sunnshine is a project I’ve been working on for almost ten years now. What started as a doom metal meets shoegaze band has slowly evolved into it’s own brand of classic rock, something that calls back to the days of The Fuzzy Duck, The Eagles, The Humble Pie, and The Led Zeppelin. In the past couple of years, I’ve really tried to hit the ground running, doing as much as I can to get a step ahead at a time while also managing everything life has to offer. In the past two years, I have gone from living in a Jeep Patriot, where I produced my first demo album “Midnight Special” and doing an album release show from the roof of Wor;d Famous Hotboys in Fountain Square, Indiana, to being the first psychedelic blues band to play a non-Tonic Ball show at the historic Fountain Square Theater in almost 30 years, to having a mostly proper basement studio, with amplifiers from the 1970’s and a full drum kit from 1965. It’s probably the most unique and curated home studio I’ve ever seen, and you’d never know that the little house on the corner could record a full 5 piece rock band in it’s depths. Life is a crazy thing when you let it roll.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Holy shit. Can I say that? You can censor that. I’ve been homeless, but living out of a handful of vehicles, for the past couple of years. In addition to some wild and wacky family problems, like all musicians, it’s definitely not been an easy path. Not even just as a musician, but in general. Life really likes to kick me when I’m down, so I try to be as on top of it as possible and keep pushing through.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a musician, the creator of the Electric Sunnshine. I record every part, then edit, engineer, and master each track myself. I also make every single piece of merch myself, but I’m considering outsourcing stickers. If you get an Electric Sunnshine shirt, CD, or cassette tape, it was lovingly made by yours truly. I feel like that makes every piece just a little more special.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
