Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalie Roy.
Hi Natalie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was raised in a small community in Eastern Canada and knew from a very young age I was entirely motivated and inspired by creativity and curiosity. Though I didn’t always know where it would lead me I spend hours of my childhood making up stories, dancing up and down dirt roads, singing in farmland fields and convincing my cousins to put on plays with me. As I grew I realized I loved human psychology, acting, storytelling, writing and finding links between what we are and how we express. This led me to move first to Toronto, then Los Angeles, then New York (where I currently live and create) nd inyo exploring psychology, eastern philosophy, meditation, spirituality, new thought, and how I could explore all of these aspects of life in the arts. Acting became a fervent passion, as well as coaching and mentoring other actors and developing an acting technique inspired by these places in me and the world.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I never expected it to be smooth, honestly. But the more I have listened, gotten into service and humility and followed the charm of what inspires me, the more I have found the most unexpected doors open. I often think we give up on ourselves if we expect the road to be smooth and easy. We maybe assume if we are doing what we are meant to do, it will be all green lights and parking spots. I think our dreams and what inspires us and motivates us are there to grow us and evolve us. We are meant to expand our capacity, to see what our potential is and we can only do that by stepping out of what we have been previously and stepping into the unknown of what we could be. Those ventures are not designed to be “smooth” per say but they are designed to give us everything we came to be.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I have been a professional actor for over twenty years. During most of this time I also devoted to coaching and mentoring other creatives. I have written books and most recently I have created the world’s first ever Audition script analysis APP for actors based on my trademarked acting technique. I co-host a podcast with my dear friend and fellow creative, Kristin Hanggi and I am constantly developing programing and courses to empower fellow artists.
I am most proud that my creative journey has been one devoted to community, connection, and telling stories that I believe moves the evolutionary torch of life forward in a way that is in deep service to humanity. I am proud that along side my career I am a mother and a partner and a daughter and friend. I am so proud when one of my clients book a job and I see the light in their eyes of having stood for their dream and made it come true.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson for me has been to be in constant remembering that no matter where i want to get next, this moment, this beautiful, once in a lifetime moment was once a dream I had that I am now living. The future might feel brighter or more abundant than wherever we are at any given moment but only from the seat of awareness that THIS moment is also a blessing, is also a dream fulfilled, is also magic and worth your appreciation, you will never live into that far off “grass in greener” future.
