Today we’d like to introduce you to Narelle Thomas
Hi Narelle, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have been a creative person since I was a child. I always have enjoyed expressing myself through writing. I’ve always drawn and made things by hand. I always enjoyed music and wanted to compose it so playing the piano, wanting to learn guitar and telling story through song had always been something I’ve appreciated. I’ve always loved reading and bringing characters to life, I naturally felt drawn to acting and the stage. I’ve always tried to gather people and put together “a show” I pretty quickly learned that not everyone is into the things I’m into and want to do. Some people want to sit down and enjoy life. Haha.
I loved illustrating story and as I grew, I learned to love how to tell them for healing and the expression of truth and fun.
I explored a lot through a theatre group ensemble that I was in when I was going into middle school through high school. I joined drama club but really was able to hone my skills through Teatro V!da theatre group which translates to “Theater of Life.” “The Other TV” as a youth ensemble member. And despite being the type to plan and organize, I also learned a lot of planning and leadership skills that later brought even more depth to my work in and off the stage. Around this time I also went plant based/ vegan and started up an Etsy shop and I’ve pretty much been doing it all ever since and expanding it.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely it has NOT been a smooth road. Everything that I’ve done in the world, I’ve pretty much been defeated by first and then learned to master through rebuilding, observation or tailoring something to my personal needs. My journey has been one of riding life by the horns to succeed in my own way by every means necessary (as long as it aligns with my best interest and morals).
It has been hard because I’ve had to learn, unlearn, and ultimately my breakthroughs usually came from me breaking things down to their components and then becoming my own teacher, or experiment and then that’s when I really have gotten it. That’s the point where i learn how to share from what i know in process and practice.
I learn in many ways, but a lot of things I have to build habit with. Me becoming my own teacher has been critical. I don’t plan for it. It just ends up becoming how I learn best or how I work. I have to translate everything to my own language.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?

I also have a fun and authentic style of self expression that shows what others like to keep hidden and also is something that people can relate to on a deep level.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I feel like most of what I do in the arts has been risky. It’s always risky to go out on a limb and bet on yourself, your talents, that people will “get it”, and not care if it’s appreciated. One thing that I’ve learned in doing all of the things that I do is to trust myself and my visions and inclinations because even when I try to creep into the things that I’d like to jump into, I find that they are well received because I believe in them, because I put my all into them, and I realize that I never had to “creep” in the first place! It’s often a misstep. I invest in myself as often as I can to develop sharper skills, better methods, and even re-newed understandings so that I can become my personal best. I feel like I’ll never let myself down if I fully commit. It will never be a true loss. Maybe I’m just a risky person which I also get, but I think to understand yourself is the most helpful and realistic way to succeed in anything you do. I can usually predict down to the minute how long it will take to compete a task or gather something. I also consider my energetic input and output in my planning and recoup process and it’s helped so much to give grace to myself and be unapologetic in addressing my own needs because the world might not provide or get it in time to help figure things out. I’ve gotten so used to being this woman and I’m thankful to persist.
