Today we’d like to introduce you to Naadier Riles
Hi Naadier, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started my clothing brand, Global Heartbreak, in 2017 as a survival tactic. The name of the brand was the first thing that came to mind due to the space I was in at the time. Global Heartbreak started as a T-shirt brand and slowly worked its way up the urban streetwear ladder, releasing multiple garments and sneakers.
As a kid in elementary school, my father owned a clothing store in Massachusetts, and he introduced me to the clothing business. I would give him a lot of credit for my business mindset and creativity. Global Heartbreak is for everyone—whether you are heartbroken or in love, everyone across the globe has experienced heartbreak. Some of us have lost family members, girlfriends, boyfriends, close friends, or even pets. Heartbreak can stem from many things; you can feel heartbroken from losing someone who’s still here with us today but whose presence you may have lost.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Having a clothing brand—or any business—will never be a smooth road. You’re going to have to take losses, and those losses can come from places you never saw coming. You can lose material things, and you can lose people close to you, including team members. My biggest struggle with building a brand has always been building a team; some people don’t see the vision, and sometimes they don’t have the patience. As an owner, you also have to understand that nobody is going to run your business like you do, and not everyone is on the same timeline as you—and that’s understandable.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in storytelling through clothing, whether it’s the garment itself or the marketing behind the piece. I’m known in the local cities as an urban streetwear designer, especially recognized for sweatsuits over the years. However, this past year, I was labeled a bootlegger for customizing a Jordan 1 silhouette. The issue was never about me customizing the shoe; the problem was that I refused to give up other designs I had worked on, and I refused to stay quiet about everything. Since I’ve had my brand, I’ve been very open about speaking my truth and sharing the things I have experienced in my life. It wouldn’t be fair to my supporters to stay silent just because a bigger brand told me to—I’m sure someone wants to hear my story.
I’m most proud of how far I’ve come and how many lives I’ve changed, whether through my clothing or by being a mentor. I’m 27, and I’ve beaten every statistic thrown my way. I’m an African American male who has been in foster care, group homes, and juvenile detention facilities. Now, I’ve made over six figures in sales, I’m a first-generation college graduate, a former child care counselor, and now I’m a registered behavior technician and a crisis counselor. Every day, I wake up and I save someone’s life—that’s what I’m most proud of, and that could never be taken from me.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success is often measured by wealth, status, or achievements, but true success goes far beyond those markers. Real success is defined by the lives you change and the impact you leave on others. It’s about using your skills, voice, and platform to inspire, uplift, and guide those around you. Whether it’s offering a kind word, mentoring someone in need, or creating something that resonates with others, success is about making a difference. The legacy of your success isn’t counted in dollars but in the number of lives touched, hearts healed, and futures brightened by your influence. In the end, the most profound measure of success is not what you gain but what you give.
