Today we’d like to introduce you to Luana Seu.

Hi Luana, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am a Romanian photographer currently based in NYC and Europe. My work has won prestigious awards such as the Jurors Picks of the Lens Culture Awards and a finals nomination for the ReFocus Awards in Color Photography 2023. I am now 26 and I realized that I have been doing photography for over 10 years. I am almost there, the point I can talk to my little self and tell her ” it will be alright, listen to your instincts because only with trust you will continue walking safely. You are protected by your choices. Just keep doing it. ”
I am now following my dream and go anywhere my career is calling me to go. Of course there are moments I am confused or I am wondering what is the next step but I never, not once, doubted that art is my calling. I trust this lifestyle, it has never been easy and I never expect it to be.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As much as I love to romanticize, even the “bad times”, I can gladly say I never had a period where it was so difficult that I couldn’t handle. I truly think “hard times” are the ones that build us, almost from scratch over and over again. One of the reasons is because I feel the energy of the people I work with, I am trying to understand them and even in situations where the expectations are very high – I am taking day by day, step by step. I will never underestimate the power of “trust the process” as I learnt from my time as an actress. A lot of my work/life philosophy is taken from acting books and lessons applied in the acting work, before everything goes on stage. Art is in the process – the performance ( and in my case now – the print or final photograph ) is not the fun part. It is the creation of it, the “in between moments”, the mistakes and the research. The experience. This helped me a lot to get the pressure of my shoulders and play as much as possible.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am visual artist so, apart from photography, I direct, I creative direct, I produce, I paint, I film, I perform. I love to give. Anytime I have an opportunity to give away information, an opportunity, my ideas – I do it.
I specialize in group photography and portraiture. I work hard to always tell a story so I call myself a “narrative photographer” because I prepare for every photoshoot as I used to prepare as an actor for a play.
I’m getting ready to tell a story.
The pre-production is extremely valuable to me and I am finally at a point in my life where I clearly use and balance the information I accumulated till this point from all the “careers” I have or had.

I am most proud of how I develop the skill to bring people together in the room and provide a safe and energetic environment where everyone is safe to express as they feel best. To purely create without any expectations and no boundaries.
