Today we’d like to introduce you to Lia Cohen.
Lia, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am a Guatemalan designer and entrepreneur who has been designing and creating ready-to-wear collections in her atelier for more than 9 years. I developed her expertise at Istituto Marangoni in Italy and further refined her skills through experience in the fashion industry across cities such as New York, Milan, and Paris.
After living abroad for over 10 years, I returned to Guatemala with a mission to create a brand that inspires women to embrace their authentic selves and remember they are magnificent. Driven by my passion for art and a keen eye for detail, each of my collections begins with a meaningful story that inspires the brand’s signature prints, handmade embroideries, and designs, creating unique pieces known for their artistry and craftsmanship.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
After training in fashion styling and working in event production, I realize that I wouldn’t have started my brand so early. Instead, I would have spent 5 to 10 years working behind the scenes at a fashion brand to gain more experience and avoid many of the mistakes I made along the way. I also believe that studying design—of any kind—doesn’t prepare us with a strong business background. If I could do it over, I would have focused on building my business knowledge before launching a startup.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
For every collection we create, we start with a manifesto—a story or a journey that we want those who wear our pieces to experience. This approach reflects how I see fashion: as a tool for shaping identity and empowering individuals to become the best version of themselves. Fashion is not just clothing; it’s a means of self-expression, confidence, and conquering each day with purpose.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
For me, happiness is a simple life filled with peace and time with my loved ones. Though I love to work, it’s more than just a job, it gives me a sense of purpose. I find joy in being productive and learning something new each day. I believe in continuously feeding my mind and setting an example for my son, showing him that every day has meaning and purpose and that he is capable of achieving whatever is in his heart.
