Today we’d like to introduce you to Leah Tash
Hi Leah, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have always had a deep love of music, ever since I was a little kid and would sneak a walkman under my bed at slumber parties so I could be alone with my favorite songs once everyone else went to sleep. I never thought it was something I could do on my own…Until I was inspired by videos I saw of other young women I saw playing guitar and singing when I was about 14 years old. I picked up an old guitar at my house back then, and once I started playing my passion just kept growing.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, but it also shouldn’t be! It’s all part of the process, and especially the growing process. I’d say some of the most prevalent struggles have been mental – the imposter syndrome, and the artists guilt if it feels like I haven’t been accomplishing as much as some of my peers. And of course, there are always the financial hurdles. But at the end of the day, I’ve learned from speaking to some of my favorite fellow artists and writers that this is just comes along with the territory.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a songwriter, singer and guitar player. I am definitely most proud of the songs I have written and the recordings of these songs I have made. As a writer and a musician, it is a priority for me to create and perform from the heart, and that’s really what my mission is.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I hope the music industry goes in a direction that pays more attention to authenticity and lyricism in songwriting. With artists that I greatly admire like Sierra Ferrell and Adrianne Lenker getting more recognition, I definitely have felt a shift in the way people decide what is considered “mainstream.” I just hope it keeps heading in this direction.
