Today we’d like to introduce you to Lasalle Grandeur
LaSalle, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started my music journey off in High School at OPRF junior year when I found Hip-Hop. At that time I was mentored by Defcee who taught me the basics of what Rap/Hip-Hop was but I always wanted to do more than just “rap” especially because of my influences at the time. My goal has always been to save people lives with music.
Over the years I just honed what my artistry was through trail and error. Some ideas wouldn’t work some ideas would stick. In those moments of failure it’d feel like I was never going to figure it out.
Until I eventually got to where I am now. Making music about my emotions and experiences to help others that relate. At times it feels scary being so vulnerable with my experience because of questions I’d be asked. But then it feels rewarding just to hear someone say “this song saved my life”
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road and I think that comes with the territory of wanting to be an artist as a career. The toughest struggle you’ll face is yourself. Battling your thoughts on if ideas are good or bad, accepting that you’ll fail, who to listen to when you don’t know the answer, etc.
It’s a constant coin toss going down this path and the bumps you’re going to experience will be hard but you gotta make what you can out of them. Everything can be a lesson it all depends on you look at it.
What’s help me feel at ease with this journey is knowing “a wise man knows nothing”. I make my peace with that and become happy with everything I can learn from others and myself.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I would say my speciality is songwriting when it comes to making music specially the hook of the song. I feel it’s quite important that the hook is rememberable so people have something to connect to off a first listen.
I feel that’s what sets my sound apart and what makes me most proud of what I created for myself thus far in my life and career.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
It’s okay not to know everything. You don’t personally need to know every answer because you can’t know every answer. You’re only one person with one experience. Relay on and trust others to give you insight and stop making your heart so heavy.
