Today we’d like to introduce you to Kylee Winningham.
Hi Kylee, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Business was always something I was interested in. My father taught me the difference between gross and net profit at 6 years old! He showed me how his businesses worked and brought me along with him to every endeavor he could. Thanks to him, I was able to learn the ins and outs of owning successful businesses before I even began middle school.
Photography has always been a big part of my life considering the fact that my mom began her photography business when I was born. I remember going on Photoshoots with her since I was about 7 years old. I never thought it was something I’d want to do until I photographed my first elopement in Red Rock Las Vegas. She asked me if I knew how to use the camera well enough to shoot an elopement and I told her I would learn. When it came, the day was so perfect. So much growth has come for me since that day but I will remember it as the day that changed my mind… and my life!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My journey has been anything but a smooth road, but luckily, I love what I do enough to overcome those obstacles. My main goal is not to eradicate those obstacles, but simply to push through them. If I can make it easier for others to push through their hardships in the process, that’s a double win for me!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a wedding photographer but I do it all. I was a very creative kid, always finding new outlets to spread that creativity, across a canvas, a book, or even a camera. I am very proud of the accelerating steps I have taken towards my career and towards pushing the boundaries of my creations.
On the drive home from my engagement session yesterday in South Lake Tahoe, I was pondering what sets me apart. It’s not that I’m young, and it’s not even my vibrant true-to-color style: it is my passion for my clients. I don’t care who you are or how you found me, when I work for you I do everything in my power to make you have the best time in front of the camera. Clients tell me all the time how comfortable and easy their sessions felt with me compared to other photographers, and that is a flex! I am willing to put in the work for that to remain true.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Most people are very surprised to hear that I am 19 years old. I am a wedding photographer who isn’t married yet! Lots of people hear this and laugh in my face, until they see my work and hear about my extensive portfolio. My age especially is my superpower! I am young enough to come party every weekend at different weddings to keep the energy high behind and in front of the camera. I have a drive that my counterparts appreciate!
