Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaitlan Vosler
Hi Kaitlan, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Cream and Concrete started when I experimented with pouring a concrete planter in 2016. I was immediately hooked with the craft! I would ask myself, “what else can I make out of concrete?” Since then, I have refined and simplified my process and my style to create the concrete home decor brand you see today.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We have steadily grown our business since we have opened, but it has not always been the smoothest road from our perspective.
In many ways we are paving our own path in artisan concrete. There are more people pursuing the craft now, but there are not many resources available to learn. Concrete decor production is not like pottery, glass blowing, or metal work where there are endless educational resources. As a result our biggest challenge has been product development with a small budget. We have high expectations for the quality of our products with the low budget of our personal savings we put into the business.
Our customers and followers see new product releases, but they do not see the many failed experiments and methods that went into the finished product. We have decided to bootstrap this business without investors which means this challenge will not be going away. anytime soon However, we think this challenge is well worth taking on!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We seek to create beautiful, simple, and clean concrete home decor and furniture. We are known for making concrete look more elegant and refined than people are used to. It is not uncommon for a shopper to pick up an item and ask, is this really concrete?!
Concrete design is what truly sets us apart. Concrete is one of the most used materials in the world, but is usually seen in streets, sidewalks, and building construction. We tend to see bulky and brutalist designs in the concrete world, but we show it can be dainty and refined as well.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
We love partnering with people and organizations that are seeking to create beautiful things. We enjoy finding new boutiques to feature our products, customers or designers looking for custom concrete items in their homes, or wholesalers looking to add concrete pieces to their inventory. Any time people share our work and our story with others it helps us continue to do this work that we love.
